so is Taos getting any of this? is she going to be good this year? Fanta Se got something? No. I was up hiking this weekend on Aspen Vista. 2-4 inches from the last storm. Interested to see what the top looks like and how much new. gonna be a light year hanging on to the scraps. Could be good for wolfie though, if they keep tracking low enough. should have bought a wolfie pass...

For the few NM mags, what is the deal with early season turns out here. I'm finishing up a temp job in the Gila Wilderness and get extended breaks, have been heading to CO for skiing, but staying with an Aunt in Santa Fe for this week.
Looking at Taos' website and they got a closed to all activity message, but so do a lot of resorts and this is lawless NM right? Are the any other grassy (ha!) slopes that hold snow? Ski Santa Fe?
Gracias

NM's early season turns seem to be best conducted in CO...
Ski Santa Fe is reporting 11 inches new, not sure I'd want to be turning on that. But both Taos and SSF are on Nat'l Forest land so go for it if you want.

Heh I spend a summer entirely on NF and still forgot that detail. Thanks.
Still used to East Coast where 1" of slush = green light.

I'd do it if it where 11 over the old 5. there are a few pockets up high in the shadows I bet you could get 20 turns off. I bet you wont be alone.

I'm working at the SF ski area right now, and a guy took a few turns during lunch break today and said it was okay, like "I didn't hit anything." The snow is thin but fairly dense for NM. I think Imma wait for the next storm, but there's a chance the ski area will be open for T-day, so you should be able to hike for a few before that.
There'll probably be a lot of people checking it out this weekend.

I got around the mountain today at Santa Fe and conditions were a little better than I expected. They've been running groomers to pack things down and in some spots the unpacked isn't too bad...but expect rocks. There is a surprising number of tracks up there. Watch out for snowmaking equipment if you go.

Yep also was able to make it up today, pleasantly surprised by conditions, hit a total of one small rock during a few forays into the fresh. Everything in the shade seems to be holding up nicely, or maybe I was lucky. Thanks for the info guys, I'll probably be up there over the next couple days wearing a red jacket, tele-whomping stocklis, no pole steeze (forgot em in VT).

la flaca...
During my lifetime I met a woman,
just like the skinny one,
coral black from La Habana,
a spectacular "mulatta"
One-hundred pounds of skin and bones,
forty kilos of salsa
and two _____ on her face,
that speak without words,
that speak without words.
The Skinny Woman sleeps all day,
she says that's how you trick hunger,
when night falls,
she comes out to dance a la Tasca
and to dance and to dance,
and to drink and to drink
one beer after the other,
but she never puts on weight,
but she never puts on weight
I would give anything
for a kiss from The Skinny Woman.
for one of her kisses,
even if it were only one
I would give anything
for a kiss from The Skinny Woman.
for one of her kisses,
even if it were only one
...even if it were only one.
I wet my white sheets
as the song says
remembering the caresses
that she gave me the first day
And the desire to sleep by her side
is making me crazy,
because, my God,
this woman has made me crazy!
(this woman) has made me crazy!
I would give anything
for a kiss from The Skinny Woman.
for one of her kisses,
even if it were only one
I would give anything
for a kiss from The Skinny Woman.
for one of her kisses,
even if it were only one
...even if it were only one.

Damn, coming off the mountain today, with the top still closed in fog, and then hitting the valley with the clouds breaking over the Ortiz and the sun streaming through, snow on fauxdoby, slow drive through downtown... Ahhh. this place can be stunning at times.
