TR - East Face of Mt Matier
Andy Traz and I skied a fun line on Mt Matier today. Seemed like it should be 1000 m of goodness, so I wanted to take a look at it.
Up the right side of that glacier then run to the blue sky.
Skinning.
Glacier galloping.
How about we ski between the seracs and the rocks where the shadow meets the light? Yes.
Just a lot of goodness.
Whip it!
On the summit ridge, looking toward Joffre.
Summit shot.
Surprise! The light went flat before we skied.
But there was good winbuffed powder the whole way.
Indeed, 1000 m of goodness. Thank you and good night.

that's the stuff
I can't believe you are a rando racer because I look so much better in Lycra than you.
People who don't think the Earth is flat haven't skied Vail.

That was a 20 m piece of 7 mm cord. Used crampons and an ax up the rocky part of the ridge toward the summit. Wanted to ski the beautiful, steep face directly above the glacier, but we found enough signs of instability while playing next to the rocks to keep us on the ridge. The ridge skied beautifully though; we had really fun turns in packed powder with exposure on both sides.

Always thought a Matier to Schaylock (sp?) tour would be a good one. Man I miss that area.

You can still enter Canada with a birth cert. and ID, Z. No sweat.
I just skied the North Face/Stonecrop Glacier on Slalok a couple weeks ago, goldie. It's definitely another choice line.

Lani, which route did you take? Couldn't quite tell. Red or blue .. ;p
Not familiar with the East face, as the NW face is a bit more prominent & the N ridge from the Joffre-Matier col is the usual ascent...
Thx for pointing out the axe Fritz. I need my eyes checked.

Twin one couloir is what I was looking at.Then I was looking at the left side route up Matier. But Sky was looking at the Serac, icefall, massive cornice to the left glacier route.
This must be from climbing all those Ranier routes.Ranier style up and down the glacier.I guess I spent too much time in the Spearhead area where everyone likes to traverse everywhere away from the skiing. But I skied a new line and the skiing off the top of Matier was phenomanal and the powder was sick down the glacier.I felt like I was skiing through an amusement park.Just make sure you have a rope and harness in case you fall into one of those slots.
