One thing I know my west coast/mountain friends were jealous of was how many shows we got on the east coast last year. Something like 25 in less than a half a day's drive from me.

This sums it up well for us east coasters. You just have to make the most of what you have and be happy you get to go out west every year.

I was so disillusioned with east coast skiing that I did not ski at all the following year and it took several good powder days at MRG the following year for me to get back into the sport.
Holy crap, you bought a season's pass? I dropped in there last year for the first time in six years when I realized that they got the most from a weekend dump of 9 inches. It was a Sunday. I barely walked away after three major crashes, two after Huntah morons decided to go exactly where I was from all the way over there. It was nine inches on top of blue ice half the time. But, I did get to experience the opening of Annapurna for the season. That kinda made up for it.

I thought I was going to go up this weekend, but waking up to -10 in Vermont to ski man made on groomer repaired rain soaked ice runs from last weekend just doesn't float my fucking boat. And my buddy is living in Sandy and calling me up every day to tell me about Alta sickness. That makes me unhappy. Vermont needs a storm or two. Like this.

Tuckerman's is the only place in the East that avalanches.

B - I think we need to have another chat with your buddy about how skiing out here is just as good as out west. That was a funny conversation.

Grew up skiing on the EC, loved it.

Skied Stowe for 4 years during college, had some legit deep days and loved it.

Skied and lived in Jackson for 3 years, loved it.

    Came back to the EC...

Bitterness asides I do believe there are those incredible days on the EC, the difference is you have to be dedicated to it. There's something to be said for the truly dedicated EC skier.

Yeah, but, why'd you move back? For a job, right? So, how can you be "dedicated" if you're working all the time? And, if you don't have a job. why are you here? I used to see the same old people at KMart every year, and think, wow, if you're going to bum, there's much better places. I know you have cheap booze and drug connections, but, still.......

After growing up in UT & AK, and then living in NJ, it was just not possible for me to get into EC skiing. I tried but it was just so bunny hill and lame, that I stopped trying to pretend I was skiing. No offense to you folks out in NJ, more like my condolences to you poor folks. But I did meet a few really good bump skiers out there.

up until 4 days ago the EC was in good shape. Then I hear about exposed rocks & grass from my buddy in Aspen and there being more snow on the EC.

I got into hard boot snowboarding at Stowe due to the "hard park" aka ICE and the lack of perfect dry powder all the time.

With some nugs and good tunes, you can trick your brain into thinking you're having fun. wearing yellow lens goggles on grey days helps a lot, too

Avalanche slide in adks.. Just happened a few years ago. wright peak. there have been numerous over the last 20 years--obviously not to the extent of western mtns.

And Whiteface mtn is developing an avalanche control program in order to open slides up to avie educated peeps.

still, yes point made, the east still sucks.

In the east you need a job that has the flexibility to let you invoke the powder clause, and live close enough to get back to work in the afternoon. second, I need to get outside in the winter, I like to ski. I go skiing.

I don't know which is worse; living in SLC or skiing back east. I tried both and they both suck. Good luck!

The "daks" are good. there is even some nice tree skiing in the Poconos but, it takes a lot of snow and you have to know where to go. The problem is it may take all season to produce a decent day.

I moved from Bozeman to Lake Placid for a job at the hospital.
    I ski 4 days a week.
Just because you work, doesn't mean you can't work out a good schedule.

With that said, on the east coast, ignorance is bliss.
There are always great days with friends.
As you learn the mountain, life gets better.

I don't think, however, that I'll ever have those days where all you can do is hoot and holler. Days where you can't contain yourself, the excitement is just too damn high.
