Dawn Patrol - Kirkwood, 10/21/04
Gotta get up early (and have a cool boss) to get the real goods.
Gimpy and Hardrider skinning the cat track. Nice groomer all the way to the top of Chair 5:
My rearview mirror reported 3 degrees at dark:30 in the Kirkwood parking lot this morning. The cold air seared our lungs (may have been due to our out-of-shape state also), but it kept the snow nice and dry. Yes, Kirkwood got nuked:
Sunrise over a wintry Desolation - aaahhhhh, Finally!
The Wall:
And, alas, Gimpy's first turns of the year
We decided to take a look-see over towards Little Jims. Ski School Chute was looking just fine to us, and it would definitely qualify as my best ever first run of the year.....as long as we didn't plow any lurkers hiding beneath the surface. Gimpy broke trail, he deserved firsts:
Holy Shit! No Rocks?!? I went second, and also managed to avoid rock carnage.
Before I could get my camera out, Hardrider had zipped through it too. So I'll just have to show you a few pictures of him floating through the deep pow in the totally untracked Sentinel Bowl.
Best October ski conditions I've ever seen. None of us hit anything below the snow worth remembering. Have fun.....

I got chills 'reading' that post, fabulous TR.
I have mastered all major sporting activities to a high degree of mediocrity.

I went out to alpine yesterday morning, there was about 3 to 4 feet of new snow at the top, fairly heavy though. Only hit a few rocks, skied palisades
