Thumbs up TR: 01/23/10 the anti-suck

Here's a sequence of MOE shot by GT40. I'll admit to being jealous of these ones.

As with most of this week the trick is getting skiers to show up in the photos. We seem to have a good catalog of poles and explosions. I'll try to add a few more pics before crashing... so I can play the game again tomorrow.

Thanks to GT40 for lugging all the gear and taking such killer pics.

Shooting has been so tricky. You can plan all you want, but it really comes down to the snow action. The light has been flat and you just instantly disappear. Poor GT has been buried more times than I can count getting these shots. We finally went to making turns to the side rather than uphill of him.

    Here's another one from today:

very nice!! can't wait to get there.

does he use multiple cameras? i lost one for the day when it got sprayed Friday (we were done anyway though)

edit-i guess it doesn't affect much more than the lens of a slr.

Here are a few other from the day:

    MD9 floats like a butterfly:

MOE putting up a smoke screen:

GT about to be buried yet again:

A shot we'll be coming back for. It had already been skied, but we wanted to get a feel for the shot. Need to throw a turn right there:

    MOE moving some snow:

Another experiment that we'll be coming back for. There's a cool little zone of dead quakies, but light made it hard yesterday. I know there's a very sick shot hiding in those trees somewhere.

    Thanks J for posting these.
I want a 6" travel 20lb MTB. I found the 20lb MTB, but only good for riders under 87 pounds.

No prob. Thanks for letting me work with your photos. It's a fun creative outlet and seeing all the outtakes is a good way for me to learn/improve.

    looks tasty
I can't believe you are a rando racer because I look so much better in Lycra than you.

People who don't think the Earth is flat haven't skied Vail.

I love that last shot. I could play in those trees all day long setting up shots.

Overall, the landscape in Utah is definitely more conducive to interesting ski photography. Riding the lift at Snowbird and Soli this weekend, I was looking all over the place at spots I'd love to mess around in. Maybe next time.
