    $800 SLR vs. $2,200 SLR

Not talking specific models, just price range.

Difference is what, better quality photography, possible HD video?

Weather sealing, more fps, better construction, cleaner high iso images, crop sensor vs full frame, better auto focus. Hard to say exactly without knowing the models, but those are some that come to mind.

Agreed, can you tell us which cameras? Although I have a $2400 body and an $800 body and I only have about half the advantages listed above!

800 = last year's technology, 2400= next year's tech. it all depends what you cannot live without. Camera makers count on people paying a premium for that. The larger price increase gets you very disproportionate technology increases.

An $800 camera is going to be a bit more user friendly than a $2,200 camera. Just depending on what your experience is with cameras at all. I had a D40 (love that thing) for 2 years before moving up, helps when moving into a little bigger camera.

This. If you applied the $1400 difference into your lenses that would give you much better bang for your buck.

    thanks.

It seems like you can go cheaper if you aren't concerned with the most recent technology.

Basically, I need a camera that shoots SLR and HD 1080p video.

I would buy a Canon T1i, it's been discussed in a few threads lately. No real disadvantages compared to 5D MkII where video is concerned and you have almost $1700 left over for lenses.

The more expensive camera has a much nicer looking flash hotshoe.

This was shot with a $2200 camera.

Well, and a Zacuto Rig. And a Marshall V-LCD70P monitor, which is a must for judging focus correctly. But once you have all that stuff you should be almost good to go!

I just ordered my first Zacuto set up yesterday. Can't wait to try it out.
