How has no one put Storm Large out there? If you e lived in Portland you should be ashamed of yourself if you haven’t caught a live show.
Great clips from Rockstar Supernova on you tube. Still can’t even imagine they picked that little pile of no talent shit over her.

Cat Power. Rocker may be arguable but she's definitely a rock star. And usually gorgeous.
Florence Welch. Ridiculous pipes.

Nashville Pussy's Ruyter Suys may not be the lead vocalist, but she rocks. Hard.

Recently I haven't been able to get enough of Speedy Ortiz, Sadie Dupuis is the frontwoman.
But honorable mention will always go to Reba. Before they blew up and were being nominated for Grammy's I saw her band in a garage and spent their set hanging out on stage next to her in absolute awe of her ferocity. When she was 18 her live performance put most guitarists to shame, at 23 she is next level.

Not mentioned as far as I saw is ZouZou Mansour of Philly-based Soraia. This is a really good band and she can sing and she has attitude. Dig it.
They have plenty of originals, Youtube just came up with this Kinks cover first:

Nina Gordon and Louise Post of Veruca Salt. Their 2015 album Ghost Notes was my favorite of the year. Perfect harmonies and rocking guitar riffs.

She was better known as the female singer on Meatloaf's "Paradise By the Dashboard Lights" and the first public defender on the TV Sitcom "Night Court" but Ellen Foley came out with a solo LP in 1979 that wasn't too bad....
