I was going to put in a qualifier to that affect, but I didn't want to upset the zen-like simplicity of my post.

As for the dangers of Central (there are a couple...) I thought I heard stories of someone falling the length of it with skis on backpack after the cornice broke under them. Also, even the tiniest pocket pulling out anywhere above the choke would change your run dramatically. Obviously.

Targhee finished the first wave of precip with 8-12 inches by noon. Good snow and not too many people. It's gonna be crazy crowded up there tomorrow. I heard the resort is booked full for the holiday weekend. Plenty of cars with UT plates headed up to check in at 3 when I bailed. If you show up late(11am) tomorrow, expect all the parking and most of the powder to be gone.

Pretty empty today, but yeah, the folks are arriving in droves.

Still good snow to be had if you really poke around, though.

Well, NOAA whiffed on that forecast. Good times were had skiing in the sun though at Targhee today, so I can't complain. They even opened up Mary's in the afternoon, which was a little crowded but fun.

Lot of 1A and out of state plates in the lot today, sorry it didn't turn out the way they were calling it for you guys.

    sorry about Wray Landon's death.

But wow, is it really stable enough to ski shit like that?
Romeo was just there on Friday, so this isn't an attempt to slam the deceased, its just a question about comfort with deep instabilities in very precarious places.

Vibes - I'm sure he touched a lot of you.

on friday, under variable clouds, the snow was bulletproof on the southeast face and amora vida couloir on the south teton. when we skied it, our thoughts were more focused on losing an edge and taking a big fall. i never would have guessed the face would avalanche just two days later...nevermind taking a friend with it. the sun really must have been heating things up on sunday.

everyone's comfort level is different, and everyday...conditions are different. i think most people in the Tetons were starting to feel pretty good about the snowpack and were ready to push things. this may change now though. and the crown was 2' deep...so the slide was more connected to instabilities closer to the surface...instead of deep instabilities near the bottom of the snowpack.

    miss you wray!
