Have to move so had to collect all the skis, figured I’d take a picture. Warranty replacement Rustler 9s are missing, but will be in the rotation for next winter.
Left to right with a quick description:
169 cm Pon2oons - sister/gf’s pow skis, same BSL, lucky me
170 K2 Pinnacle 105 - gf’s skis
184 Dynastar Chan 97 High Mountains - spring touring skis maybe some day
180 Head Raptor WC Rebels - fun carving skis
194 Kaestle MX 98 - back up pair
194 Kaestle MX 98 - go to charger, best ski ever
194 Rossignol Black Ops Sender Squad - Baja Trucks
194 Salomon QST Blank - Gunsmoke replacement, fun
193 Kaestle BMX 115 - OB pow ski, big mountain ski
192 K2 Mindbender 116 C - touring ski
3x 193 Volkl Shiro - green are broken, both blue are for sale, pow charging
203 Volkl Shiro - AK some day ski
194 Moment Chipotle Banana - inbounds pow, might sell
189 K2 Pon2oon - deep pow/history
Volant Spatula - history
195ishVolkl P40 - never been skied, by anyone, ever, gift from WSTdeep for Gaper Day, will be skied next winter
195ish Salomon X Scream - history, will be mounted and skied next winter
Sort of a weird year for me, only got about 60 days, didn’t keep a spread sheet this year so don’t ask, haha. Mainly skied the Rustler 9, MX 98, Bananas, and BMX 115s. Spent some time on Brahmas, Rustler 10s, Line Vision 108s, and 193 Shiros, all were either sold or are for sale. Did not get enough time on the Black Ops Sender Squads, only 4 days, because I bent one, not sure how. The QST Blank doesn’t seem like a ski I’d like, ended up loving it and skiing it almost exclusively the last month.
Would like to try the rumored 190 Rossignol Black Ops 118/Gamer, same with the 194 Black Ops Sender TI, outside those two I’m probably not in the market for any skis this summer. I’m always looking to fill the 100-115mm wide slot, the Blank and Sender Squads will split duties next winter unless an amazing unicorn appears.
Spent more time then I thought I would this past winter on the Blizzard Rustler 9s. It’s an awesome ski. When those broke in early March and I got the Blanks, I don’t think I skied anything else the rest of the season.
Going to sell both blue Shiros, possible the Bananas. Everything else I’m happy keeping. At this point the quiver is more of a museum since nine pairs might see a day or two a winter due to being back ups, having a super narrow niche, or artifacts that belong in a ski museum.
Feel free to ask any questions, I’m a fairly open book.

Not single, but I’ll keep it in my mind.
Make me an offer? Mounted once for Pivots 301 bsl at -1. They are going into storage on Friday for the summer, so act quick.

Luckily my home mountain is a ski area versus a resort so it is easy to walk to the car and change out skis. All of these are taken out on a regular basis.

No difference length wise between my bibby tours and the regular bibbys for me - seem to be identical. Weird.
Havent been on the CBs yet, didnt ski inbounds this season. All of my bibbys are -1cm & I bought the CBs used drilled on the line for my BSL - I will see if they feel too far forward

The Quiver Pic Rerun Thread
I’m curious to what you think about the CBs. A few mags are on them now.

What do you think of the ARG by handling them? Trying to decide between these or a 192 Protest.

I never skied my Protests, I moved them along to a good home. Shape wise, the ARGs are in between the Protests and Powder Boards. Protests seem more like Magic Js, they have significantly more sidecut than ARGs. I would bet the Protests are more versatile than ARGs, if you have 2-3 skis (firm, mixed, pow) and want to ski the wider ski a bit more often. I think the ARGs are still plenty versatile for those who like or don't mind skiing centered and have a slightly larger quiver. Like Blister says, there are some people who daily drive these types of skis, they just like surfing around all over the place. Even on groomers on fairly firm snow. Crazy. I've definitely seen a dude in Jackson Hole, on a few different occasions, with a Hawaiian shirt over his jacket, on old ARGs on firm-ish snow just cruisin' around.
I owned old ARGs too, one of my favorite skis of all time. Hand flexing these, they are similar, but 2cm longer and slightly burlier. I remember the old ones being beefy too, these are all based of Volant Spatulas and weigh about the same. 2600g/ski+ and stiff. They are much stiffer than the Billy Goats and my Pro Riders. Even when flexing all that rocker. Underfoot they are serious, like Head Monster 108 serious. When I tell people this they think I'm yanking their chain. This is not a wimpy ski, in fact the opposite. It's one of the burlier skis I've owned.
That beefiness suits this ski though. There is a lot less drag or friction with this shape in any sort of 3D snow, and with most of the weigh underfoot the swing weight feels a lot better than signifantly lighter skis. It makes for one of the most distinct feels in skiing I've felt, idk if Protests can do that (Blister says ARGS are on a different level than Protests). On the old 185 ARGs on deeper days, you could just bash around rollerblading through the choppiest, chunkiest, funkiest 3D conditions, at any speed. They are very easy to ski slow, but they can also hold their speed through the pivot/turn, much like a Billy Goat, so can be skied very fast through conditions most people are skiing 2mph through the chunk bumps. Sorry for the run on sentences. This ski gets me excited just like Billy Goats do. I plan on using mine any day there is more than 7-8", not just those few uber deep inbounds days.
They work so well in any type of untracked powder. Best in thick snow, and in super light n fluffy snow, the tips float less than underfoot, which seems odd at first, but they still surf like no other. It feels like you are in the ultimate control in 3D snow.
To get this beef in a Protest, you'd have to go Heavy Hitter Glass with 5 flex. Idk how that'd ski, but I love that layup in other Praxis skis. I want to try 200cm Powderboards in heavy #4, as soon as I figure out a way to go cat skiing more often.
If you want a more directional ski, hands down get the Protest. If you don't mind a more centered ski stance, that's a tough decision between Protest and ARGs, but it comes down to whether you want slightly more versatility with the Protest, or a more distinct powder/chop experience with the ARG. If you're touring, you can make a much lighter Protest, so that would take the cake there I guess. I plan to tour on my ARGs though, as well as bootpack and sled ski, IDC about weight.Last edited by AEV; 05-13-2021 at 10:40 PM.

AEV, much appreciated lengthy response. I’m leaning Protest due to the more direction boot center and I think they will compliment the ARV 116 better.

I have a longterm plan with these skis lol. This shape is so ridiculous, it makes you plan for more pure powder skiing, which is another reason I love them. They won't be sled skiing this year though..
The original plan was to mount alpine binders on both of those in my pic. However I think I'm going to regret not putting some Duke PT 16s on them and getting a new boot. Or Cast, but idk. I would have loved to buy used and save money, but I went new because I may be Swiss cheesing these things over the years and recommended mount point on both BGs and ARGs are more a bit more critical.

Good deal. The old ones were so fun. It's definitely a quiver ski that I will keep for a long time, while others come and go. I plan to use it a lot on average snow years, and even more on big years. In the resort..
I doubt these are much different than the old ones, in fact they look to have fixed some of my minor issues (old was slightly short in 185, new 187 is just right. and even beefier for me now that I'm heavier)Last edited by AEV; 06-06-2021 at 09:33 AM.

Something for every condition.
Living a 5 hour flight from SLC, these end up living in a storage locker at the first exit from the airport for the majority of the year. This year was very sad as my trips coincided with the worse weeks they had as far as snow, so only the Stockli's and FX95's went out to play.
Yes, demo clamps on some units so my kids and local buds can play on them too.
