The BMX 115 and MB116 do have similar shapes, but ski very differently because of the weight difference. They do over lap, but are different tools for different jobs. I have thought about selling the MB116 with the CAST Pivots, but they aren’t worth anything since they delaminated and we’re rebuilt.

The FX 106 is one of the worst skis I’ve ever been on. Its a dumpster fire for rich assholes who own ski in ski out McMansions, ski 5 days a year and think fat skis are for carving. It wants to make one turn shape only, and fights you on that no matter what you do. I haven’t spent much time on the BMX 105, but I remember it being WAY easier to ski then the dumpster fire that the FX 106 is. I would buy and am looking for a BMX 105, I would not own an FX106 even if it was free.

The ZX is a narrower BMX 115, doesn’t quite have the blast through everything ability of the MX98, but it is very easy and comforting to ski. I think the it the ski industry loves these days is suspension, and these definitely have a good feel to them. Think if it as a more lively fun version of a Cochise or QST 106, something like that.

The BMX 115 is awesome and to say the tip is “soft” is maybe not right? It has a slightly softer flex then the rest of the ski. I only noticed the tip in super wind affected heavy snow, and it was a minor flutter when carving turns on a very high speed open run out. I wouldn’t change anything in the construction of the ski if I could, it’s that good. Kastle got it right.

I too like their shape. I have had my eyes on BMX115 a long time since I appreciate many of its design elements, but stayed away because of the hefty price tag. However, I think I came really close to the BMX features with the Praxis +10 BC, but no soft tips here. Would be interesting to A/B them fer sure.

If you can find a discounted pair, I’d say grab them and give the BMX 115 a shot. The build of Praxis is nice, but the Praxis skis I’ve been on just don’t have the same refinement as skis from bigger companies. I skied 196cm +10 Freerides for a few years as my big mountain and pow ski, and liked them a ton, but the BMX 115, MB116, even the Shiro, are just better skis.

I need to edit the soft tip thing, cause the tip is the correct flex for the ski.

    The Quiver Pic Rerun Thread

Quiver changed a fair bit this year. Put some skis up for sale and got some good prices:

    Sold Icelantic my 181cm Nomad 105s and 181cm Nomad 115s....bought 182cm Faction Candide 4.0s and 183cm Candide 5.0s.

Sold the 182cm Faction 4.0s....overlap with the 5.0s and just liked the 183cm 5.0s much better. More fun, less planky.

Sold my 180cm J Ski Metal to buy Rustlers....the Metal is a great fun, easy, fast ski, minimal camber ski which is so sweet....likely a mistake to sell but replaced with Rustler 11 with Shifts which are better for sidecountry.

Sold my 176cm 4FRNT MSP 99.....another great ripper ski but I bought some Black Crows Daemon 177cm (131-99-121), similar dimension and thought I would love them...metal inside and full rocker and I wanted to try BC....but I didn't like em at all? Sold them at a loss, but bought really cheap, on sale, 177cm K2 Marksmans (mostly for the old-school graphic).

Life then gets pretty simple when you’re down to just 3 pairs. We did a big 10-day ski trip through Red Mtn, Whitewater, Whitefish, Schweitzer and Baker...skied the Faction 5.0s 90% of the time!

Current quiver (skier: 5’7”, 165 lbs, ski centered)
    ———————————————
    177cm 2019 (~180cm?) K2 Marksman (132-106-124) w/ Pivots (-5), fun and super playful).

180cm 2019 Blizzard Rustler 11 (142-112-132) w/ Shifts (mounted at -6.75) an all around, do-it-all Whistler sidecountry or inbounds ski. Love the green topsheets. Not a ton of camber, these pivot or rip. Surprised how much I like this ski.

183cm 2020 Faction Candide 5.0 (152-122-140) w/Pivots (-5), I ski them from groomers to pow it seems, f’ing so fun. Easy, stiff and light, perfect feeling mount at -5. Love the flat rocker.

    Future additions:
    ———---------------
Got an extra pair of Look Pivot 18s in the garage:

Thinking of adding a 182cm Rossignol Black Ops 98 (131-98-121) but not sure want/need a narrower ski, with lots of camber.....though at -4.7cm mount I would like.

K2 Mindbender 108Ti or 116C? Or wait for the new K2 Reckoner 112

    Or maybe a 184cm 4FRNT Renegade (137-122-130)...I've owned 2013 and 2015 186cm Rens....hmm.

I’m still wondering why the K2 177cm Marksman measures longer than a 180cm Blizzard Rustler 11?

I really wish that were the case. Picked them up and we’ve lost more base than we’ve gained since. All in good time.

Thanks dude! I think I can get it down one more ski. The double MB116c is fine but annoying me since the BMX115 is not that heavy and would be a fine ski for my CAST Pivots. I’d like something in the gap between the MX98 and BMX115/MB116c.

Have you tried Dynastar LPR 105? If not, that could be a sweet option for that slot.

    Or the K108.

Somebody needs to A/B the K108 (and/or the M102) with the LPR 105.

I tried the LP105, loved skiing it, hated carrying it around, and I do a ton of hiking OB. It is a great ski, just not quite what I’m looking for.

I’ll give the Karan 108 a shot if I can find a pair, just slightly afraid they will be the same as the LP105.

    My two ski quiver: https://imgur.com/a/I7DOMjL

Black Crows Atris, Dynafit Beast 14
    Salomon MTN 95, Marker Alpinist.
I know the Beasts are unpopular, but I like them. They are solid, no reliability issues. Notably, one can lock out the toe when skiing downhill, which for me is very important.

The key on this setup, and what makes it so special is that the toes remain attached, but the heels are quiver killered. The atris can take the alpinist heel to run on a Radical 2 toe, alpinist heel frankenbinding. 350 grams weight, rotational toe, and 0mm gap elastic heel. Potentially the ultimate setup for weight vs performance?
The plan is that I can swap in the alpinist heel for when I want the wide ski for distance touring, steep skiing (the atris is super predictable, and I like being on a ski I know well). I am pretty fit and able to keep up with most, so the MTN will be used exclusively for 1500m+ days or very long distances.

All was looking great. I picked the skis up from Spyderjon today on my drive from university in north of the UK to the south. As expected, excellently mounted and top service. The plan was to drive onwards to La Grave tomorrow for a month. I have an apartment booked there. Upon my arrival in the south, I have found out that France moved to draconian Italian measures tonight, and this is no longer possible. Pretty gutted. Maybe I'll go ski some Scottish steeps. Always next season

I am too lazy to drag em all out into the sun and line them up nicely for you, so you'll have to do with a shitty pic from the basement:

    L to R:

    - Fischer FIS slalom ski: so much fun in the preseason!

    - Fischer tourist carver: too soft so took the binding of

    - Völkl Vwerks Katana (184) w ATK FR14 2.0: Main touring ski. Just plain awesome.

    - Cochise (185) w CAST Solly 916: Cool in everything but a lot of pow.

    - Rustler11 (188) w shift. New this year, thought to replace all freeride skis.

    - Bodacious (186) w CAST & Jesters: Love this ski, but have realized my legs are shot after a full day of charging on these. Hence the Rustlers

    - Gunsmoke (186) with STH16's: Cool ski but tailrocker is not for me.

    - ZeroG95 (178) w speed rads: As discussed in anoter thread: really cool ski but a bit too carbon-y. Long tours, corn and steep skiing.

Boots are zeroG's and Lange ZA's with tech inserts.

I am moving from CH to the US somewhere this summer, so this collection needs to be drastically reduced. Most likely I will only bring the VW Katana's and Rustler's.
I was hoping to sell the majority of freeride ski's but the abrupt end of lift-skiing season makes this a bit hard. We'll see if I manage or otherwise I will probably store them somewhere for when I return to europe in a few years.

No resort skiing so I might as well post my quiver.

184 Line sir Francis bacon mounted -2cm from recommended -4.5cm from true center. I had them at recommended but didn’t love them, moved them back and now they feel a lot better. My spin and butter ski. Playful, but surprisingly stiff for a freestyle ski, not a jib noodle but still gets bucked in crud.

185 Nordica Enforcer 110 mounted +1cm of recommended (-7.7cm). My daily driver does everything well, busts crud, carves well, predictable in pretty much all conditions, can still spin and pop.

190 Moment Bibby mounted on the line. Still pretty new to me. Initial impression is that it is more stable than my animas, does better in heavy snow and wind affected. Super fun ski can’t wait to get more laps on it.

194 Black Crows Anima mounted on the line. My best soft snow ski, slashes and pivots easier than the bibby’s, tons of fun in soft chop. It handles weird conditions pretty well the Bibby just does it better.

175cm Scott Superguide 105- touring rig

186cm Liberty V92- frontside lazy days

    188cm Rossignol E98- carver

    184cm Movement Baby Goliath 99- all mountain/sidecountry

184cm Volkl Mantra 102- all mountain ripper/ travel ski

    191cm Movement Goliath 109- charger

184cm Volkl VWerks Katana 112- powder/sidecountry/travel (still deciding what binding to mount)

207cm Kastle GPR Super-G 32meter- fast carver (needs remount, Derby plate rubber finally delamed off ski)

210cm Kastle Speedmachine DH 40meter- wake up and pay attention

The Volkl M102 forced retirement for my Nordica Enforcer 110 and was also so good that it prompted my purchase of the VWerks Katana. It could probably also replace both Goliaths but I LOVE the Goliaths and know I would regret ever selling them.

    L to R:
    196 Hart Wizard, early retirement.
190 Kneissl Tanker: I skied these a bunch this year, became my new dust on crust ski.
    194 Kastle MX98: fuck they’re good.
188 Stockli Scot Schmidt Pro: groomer zoomer. These are still in great shape but are getting clapped out. Sad face. Got another pair. Happy face.
    192 Cochise: crud buster.
192 Stormrider TT: mount is way too jibby for me; I tried. Moving it back a couple cm for next year.
190 Legend Pro: rock ski. Second pair. Does it all like you did it ten years ago.
192 Movement Super Turbo: these will likely be my pow skis till I die, because I so rarely have the need to ski them. Awesome ski though.
    188 SS Pro: backup.
192 Stockli SR 95: will replace my DD as the MX98/Tanker/SS Pros wear out.
185 Armada Invictus 95ti: family fun day ski. Great all around frontside ski, but real turny for my tastes.
188 Stockli Laser Cross Pro: GS ski
    165 Atomic SL11: zick-zack
    192 Elan 777: loaner.
    The wife’s skis:
165 BD Velvet: she loves these things, won’t give them up.
158 Volkl Queen Attiva: smells like hippies.
    167 Atomic Affinity
162 Rossi Saffron (sky) 7: wife weighs 100 lbs, these float her just fine.
    Longboards:
210 Atomic SG:11: makes me wish we still had town DH around here. Bastards.
222 Elan RC DH: Way lighter and more responsive than most in this length, but I’m in the parking lot by the time I finish a turn. So fun.
    Couple of 210 Salomon SGs.

And everything in the shed came out for a sweep. I love having all this old crap around because it reminds me of some fun times. Whenever I have a home with a cathedral ceiling they’ll all go up over the T&G.

Some of these are still skiable, some are blown to shit. Took out the 193 Titan Pros last year for fun and they are still an amazing ski, punishing tail and all. The LP 105s are screwed together or I’d still ski them, but I’ll replace them in the fall with a shiny back pair.
