    The Quiver Pic Rerun Thread

Agreed. I had to use my tech mounted Ravens for a morning of on piste in Europe last month. The faster I went the more fun they were as I engaged the full edge/side cut. Of course, you gotta have a lot of room for that and euro grooming doesn’t hurt either. Not sure if they would be as fun forced into tighter turns.

My take on Ravens is that they are fun in soft snow, less so everywhere else. As in I cannot remember a ski I grew to dislike more in low tide/icy/firm conditions than the Ravens.

Sure, they are a shit ton of fun in softer snow, but I have wider (and frankly better) skis for those conditions (too). We get everything from somewhat blower through maritime through icy where I ski for the most part.

So I can totally understand that people love them, especially given the previous iteration of the Hoji. But they are def not a versatile shape that will jam with all skiers across most conditions (something a ski in this waist with kinda needs to be able to for universal praise).

I am pretty lucky to be close to the mountains, as well as building a home at the base of my local hill. So maintaining a 1-2 ski quiver is probably only going to last this year lol.

Ya if it’s soft and the snow has any depth then I’m on Renegades, BC 120s or Nomad 115s.

Funny how we are all so different in our perceptions and taste. Cause when I read your post and was like WTF?

I find my Ravens very versatile, and it is the ski that I most reach for when low-tide at Whistler and the snow is off. eg. ice, re-frozen shit, dust on crust etc. Everyone else complains about these conditions (cause they suck) but when I’m on the Ravens they make the conditions just seem way better than they are. Something about that Hoji-ish shape, and it’s ability to carve on the long effective edge when the ski is rolled over, and then switch instantly to slide/release long turns, with the rocker. I’m really glad I put Duke PTs on mine. Cause they get more use inbounds.

Same here. I had to ski so much refrozen garbage on the Raven and loved them (as much as you can love anything in bad snow like that) due to the reasons you mentioned. Although, I've also wondered if it was because my edges were straight from the factory and very sharp. So the ski shape allowed me a shit ton of versatility, but the razor-sharp edges were there if needed too. Which made the ski perfect, for me, in the conditions.

Of course, not trying to convince anyone the Raven is the end all be all. Ski what works for you. And having sharp edges isn't a revelation, but I mostly tour for pow so tuning is def something I'll actually stay on top of with the Raven.

Yeah, I dunno - it might have been a mount point thing, the edges being off or something else being the matter, but at the end I could not wait to sell them. Kinda weird as I really liked them at first, but then completely lost confidence in them.

Might have to give them a second try with a new pair at some point, though they'd be seriously hard pressed to outperform my beloved BMTs.

Couldn’t get my hands on some new nordicas from gear swap for some reason so added the BC version.

    Left to right:
    - Praxis Protest - 177 - enduro core — awesome on super deep days. Way more predictable when trenching than other pow skis. New this season and I only took these out ~4 days this year in the wasatch, and I ski every day. I had many of the best turns of my life on them. The way you can pitch tips into deep untracked and you know they’ll come back up makes pow skiing insanely fun, can truly get pitted while making a good pow turn. On days that aren’t psycho deep I still grab the 118 over these because the 118 is just quicker and more playful.
    - Salomon QST 118 - 178 — amazing pow ski. Pretty much pull these any day I know I’m going to be able to ski a ton of untracked and not psycho deep. So fun in any type of pow - very surfy and I love the pop you can get out of a good pow turn. Also in soft chop they’re like trampolines launching from bump to bump, which is so fun. Scary in firm, but if I hit firm on these I picked the wrong ski for the day.
    - Blizzard Sheeva 11 - 180 — kinda fun all around ski. A bit less surfy than the 118 in pow; the way I describe it is you’re making the turn you set, and that’s that. I skied these a bunch when it was chalky and they’re great for steep chalk, but I’ll probably dump these next season if I can find the new QST 106 next season for cheap
    - Salmon QST 106 - 181 — also kinda fun all around ski. More surfy than the Sheeva, so if I’m pretty confident I’m going to be skiing pow but might be skiing some firmer snow I grab these. If I can find the new QST 106 for cheap, these will become dedicated rock skis.
    - Rossi Experience 100 - 174 — pretty fun carver that can handle steep chalk well. Has great energy out of turns and is also fun in spring corn. These used to be my groomer / spring ski in the wasatch, but the Blade easily took that slot, so I’ll probably make these my east coast skis (I travel east a few times a year and will just keep them there)
    - Dynastar Mythic 97 - 177 — touring ski. Fun enough to wiggle low angle pow and ski corn. Didn’t take it out a ton this year, but it sure is nicer walking up with these and hojis instead of 106’s and Striders.
    - Line Blade - 169 — insanely fun carver and corn ski. Can’t praise this ski enough, it totally rips and makes groomer days very fun. As long as it’s not bullet proof, this thing trenches. It also breaks free easily in corn, and can lay larger radius turns pretty well for its crazy turn radius. Easily the most fun ski I’ve bought. I love skiing pow but a good corn day on these is close to a pow day.
    - Rossi WC SL - 155 - always fun on super firm days

Few changes to the lineup this year.

177 Dynastar Mythic 97 w/ OG Tour Lites

    184 Armada Declivity w/ kingpins

184 Dynastar Cham High Mountain 107 w/ Verticals

    193 K2 MB 116c w/ FKS 155 x Cast

    186 4FRNT Renegade w/ FKS 155 x Cast

    195 Armada JJ 2.0 w/ PX14

    183 Rossignol Axiom DP110 w/ 4FRNT deadbolt demo

    184 4FRNT Devastator w/ FKS 155

    207 K2 Extreme w/ Solly plastic fantastic

    Standouts this season:

    1) Devastators, which I skied every lift served ski day this year. I really clicked with them mounted at -1 mm from rec. So much fun in almost all conditions.

    2) Mythic 97--it's an excellent, well rounded touring ski and hard to have a bad time on. I'm sad that Dynastar stopped making it.

The only skis that I didn't use this winter are the axioms and the declivitys. Declivitys are new and I'm hoping to get some time on them before summer rolls around.

Quiver got larger despite my best intentions. Just packed them away and then these 186 Bodes for cheap and in this condition show up..fuck. 3 skis each of the last two years, and now I feel i'm past my leaning-on-wall allowance.

Previous owner claimed he got it off Castle Mountain patrol a few years back and I was going to call bullshit, because it has no core-shots, 8-9/10 edges: The worst damage is a mild gouge on each ski and topsheet's a bit chewed. A quick tune shy of mint. I'm presuming it was him who decided to put shifts on. I'll probably fit in, but worst-case I franken-demo them to my BSL where the holes allow.

Still looking for that dragon Katana.

I think I would be very happy with that quiver in the PNW. What have you considered for the spring touring spot?

I'd love a pair of Down Lowdown 90s if I can find them, I really appreciate long radius skis in the BC.

Not the newest or fattest, but works for me on the East Coast mostly skiing with 4 kids - finally got everything tuned a couple weeks ago after meaning to for the last 6 months. And have subsequently flipped the Wizards to another mag (plus thinking about losing the Kastles too as I tend to ski the Bros out as a daily driver now that they have Shifts).

    168 Kastle MX70/997s - Ice skates
177 Bobtails/HHs - tele chasing the youngest kid around the groomers (used to have an African Mahogany, low camber custom pair I wish I never sold, but found these recently unmounted)
180 Wizard Sploders/997s - fast and firm, rock skis
179 Faction Agent 2.0/Speedlights - lighter, turnier Bro - early morning tours
179 Bro/Shifts - go to travel ski, now a daily driver with Shifts added last year
186 Lhasas/Shifts (to be mounted soon) - the rare Catskills powder day and travel ski
Small wife's small K2 sticks - alpine and touring, she's really taken a liking to getting out before the lifts open and getting a sweat on. I'll take it.
To the left - loaner his and hers touring kits for when friends come up - beat up Queen Attivas and Buddah Gotamas with (and soon to get) some Fritschis.

I'd add a Praxis-Kusala to the mix if I could get ahold of one - sexy wood topsheet and curious how compares to the Lhasa.

Boots - added Cochises with the shifts last year (need a buttload of work to be comfortable for me, but best last of the burly tech boots for my foot, so we'll get them sorted) and my old faithful, beefed-up Megarides for meadow skipping on the Factions. Plus Scott Synergy tele boots based on the old Garmont Ener-G last.
