That's quite a list of guest stars - if you weren't really paying much to your usual listens (me) you missed out on quite a bit.

those isolation tracks are cool - With all of the new years shows through the years on various feeds this times of year I wonder what Etta James vocal track would sound like.....

Did you know that Bernie auditioned to be their keyboard player in the transition between Pigpen, TC, and Keith? The mittens were a problem

    Made my day, too.

My wife and I saw the premier of “festival express” at the beacon theatre bin San Francisco. We weren’t aware that it was the premier until we got there. I felt like we were 20 years younger than everybody else. A really fun film.

^^^they did some pre release thing of the footage in the mid 90s in nyc... at the time, pre streaming of course, it seemed like a big deal

I had not seen all this 76 interview until today: https://youtu.be/80dcUvmVWzM

    Some great nuggets in there...

    5-13-77

I had come across an article from a local Ithaca newspaper about the 5/8/77 show and laughed as it referenced “Hallelujah Lightening” in the set list.

I feel like I hadn’t listened to that show in a long time, so I cued it up this afternoon. I’m more convinced than ever that it’s popularity is based primarily on the crisp booters that were so widely available back in the day. Don’t be mistaken, the Dancin’ 1st set closer and the Dew to close the 2nd are top performances of those tunes, but it is not the best show ever and is not even the best show of May ‘77.

    That’s it. I’m on record.

    “Play California!”

I really like the Scarlett > Fire a lot, too, from that show.

For some reason, I’ve recently heard/watched videos of “so-so reacts to the cornell 1977 Morning Dew” twice and I shed tears. For me, I think the emotional reaction is related to general life stress and tension. The same recently happened watching and listening to a well shot vid of them playing Dear Mr Fantasy/Hey Jude.

I didn’t know or had forgotten about the 90’s era release of footage. My favorite parts of the film were seeing pigpen in action, Janet in action, and the drunken jam session on the train.

Thanks for the interview. I’m about half way through.

I always find my way back to the Mosque for May ’77. Scarlet>Fire>Estimated>He’s Gone>Drums>TOO>Wharf Rat>TOO>Wheel is sublime to my ear.

Might be my big ol' Klipsch running warm by the woodstove tonight but this show really makes me appreciate Phil...clean and tight. Keith sprinkling in sweet on piano too.

Thanks for the klipsch reference and the old memories those things brought

    2-15-73. It’s been a while but yesterday’s listen reminded me—what a show

Pretty sure Wolf made it's first synth (Roland mounted predecessor to true midi retro some time later in 89) appearance at Alpine that summer replacing the black strat that he was using during space, 2nd night space (the crowd roar was memorable when everyone realized he was playing Wolf) through most of the 2nd set if I remember correctly and then again for a portion of the 19th show. Probably my favorite 3 night run I ever saw.

9/28/72 Greatest Story Ever Told has Jerry shredding and bending through the solo until he trips out into St. Stephen for a bit. Bobby exclaims, “Well folks, I think something blew up!” when it’s all over. Whoa!
