Thx! I was hoping to catch the live broadcast from TRI Studios but go figure, family stuff got in the way.

    Sounds good!

    what is it about TRI?
    i've never heard better sound.
that studio is so fucking dialed in.
    i'm a sucker for Dylan/Dead crossover.
    i was at Richmond '85, both night's.
when, Jerry krushed 'She Belongs To Me', the whole place was in full meltdown.
this version with Bobby, John Doe and Dave Schools, is stellar!

Being one of those easily distracted people I figured I'd dump my thoughts here.

Saw DSO last wknd in JH. First show after a six wk break and with new bass player, Skip Vangelas. Those guys are always good, at least in my experience but they were a little rusty that night. Interesting show, 10/29/71. JM had his moments but he was lagging for much of the night. Skip filled the part but couldn't pick out his vocals in the mix very well. The second set had the band feeding on each other better. Still some fuck ups but that's how this music goes. Fun night but they were not at their best. I'm sure they are back up and killing it now. Catch em!

A friend who missed the show asked me the next day how it was. The best way I could summarize that show was it felt more like a Grateful Dead show than a DSO show. Some incredible moments mixed in with some "oops" moments and a little of everything in between but still had the audience smiling and happy from start to finish.

I've seen these guys a bunch of times and never lucked into anything earlier than '73. As one who thinks post-73 is mostly meh, you a lucky man! 10/29/71 has a heck of a set list though wouldn't it be something if they would, just once, give us the mother's milk of Dark Star > St. Stephen > Eleven > Lovelight . . .

I have a feeling they will give Skip Vangelas more time to get accustomed to the band before going there. I don't follow them all that closely though so I could be wrong. They announced him like he was going to be permanent. He has a good grasp of the bass structure.

Took Cayusette to see DSO last night in Spocompton. They played 9/11/73 from the College of William and Mary said at the beginning it was a show they had never played before. Several oops moments, lots of good stuff as well. Played for about 4 hours. Good times but I'm in a bit of trouble with Mrs . Cayuse for keeping the child out past midnight on a school night...

Now to grab a download from archive.org and burn a disk for the daughter.

Thanks again for the ticket, Schwert. Only made it for the second set, but sounds like that was perfect! Agreed...as close to a real show as I have seen, musically (well, except for their short jams, NFA was about 8 - 12 bars too short!).
    Fun times.
Except for walking out to watch some random dude getting his face smashed in.

Midday show on the GD channel. This was one of my favorite go-tos for a while. Miller's mastering is fantastic here but some of the Aud recording out there are fantastic. Lotsa people complain about '85 for obvious reasons but there are some gems amount the crowd. This, IMO, is one of them.
