    thats the garcia i knew.
Great show. The late '80's were fantastic, IMO. Garcia had that "new lease on life" thing goin on for a little while. Might not have been the caliber of '69 or '73 but I wasn't fortunate enough to be seeing the band in that era either.

Mickey's new band is killin' it. Dave Schools fits in much better than I imagined. The woman belting out the vocals rips too! Go see them if you can.

    ^i've heard good thing's about MH's band.
    that's awesome!

DSO is playing 15 minutes from my place, Colonial Theater in Keene next week!
last time i caught them there, they krushed the West High, summer solstice show from AK.
one of my all time favorites.

at half time JK came out and asked me how i liked the first set, i was throwing down hard during the Supplication Jam!
i havent seen the new lineup, but i'm hoping for a '76 show.
there is a real freshness during this year, it's got a happy feel to it.
    this would work nicely.

That's the goods right there, Jerry stretching every note!

DSO never ceases to amaze, they play the Wellmont theatre - nice old venue down here, basically stand at the bar with friendly tenders 40 yards away from the stage at eye level, they blow the roof off every time...

Listened to this one last night while cleaning up after my kids, (and myself). Neat, mellow groove for a chunk of the show. Not boring! Relatively well played too. Doesn't resemble many of the '73 shows but worth your time.

    Rest in Peace, Brent Mydland.
miss this guy, it was never the same for me after he passed.
this is a fucking insane trainwreck, but it gives me chillz.
check Jerry's tone on 'Mr Fantasy' all snarly and whatnot.
Jer Bear goes so hard during his solo, he broke a string!
and Brent ripping the 'Leslie Cabinet' to shreads.
    good stuff.

A good train wreck IMO. Brent was having some obvious problems all spring and summer until the end but it made for some powerful music at times. This vid tells the story well.

Brent's passing was the end for me, really...it was obvious to me the band would never really recover. Sad, sad times, he brought SO much needed energy to them.

Nope, never the same. I couldn't let go though. His last 3 shows at The World, (despite the venue sucking and Brent being in tough shape), were pretty damn fine. Driving home from the last one one of the guys in the car, said, "Brent is In real trouble". We had the debate for the next couple hours. I got out of the van claiming he was gonna be strong in the fall. Less than a wk later, done deal. Sad times for Dead fans.

the hornsby solos are so strange to listen to on playback. was listening to a 90 show from europe and and he played one of his long intros and then played Valley Road. Doesn't quite fit for me. (Aldo, DG is bearable in that MITR, mostly)

That's a ripping show BF. Writing was on the wall over on stage left.

MMP - been listening to Jerry's "don't let go" disc set from the Orpheum in 76. Dust that one off if you have it. Donna is almost bearable. Disc #2 "Lonesome and a long way from home" has now become my funeral song.... That version just has so much soul. Good lord.

Pressing play now, no reason to start the day any other way....

Nate - that link BF put up is from a stellar show - prime example of the last run where the boys just put magical nights up out of nowhere - Jerry was on point this night - stream it, turn it up!

Thinking I should take Cayusette when they come to town this fall. She'll be a freshman in H.S. so a little culture would be good for her and she listens to my CD's when we're on road trips so at least she kind of knows the music.
