    Exactly.

I started listening to the Dead when I was 9 (coincidentally for this thread, in 1977), my 13yo brother came back from a summer trip playing them like crazy. I hated them at first, thought they couldn't sing worth a damn (still true ), but by the end of that summer I was hooked.

And I got hooked on PigPen from listening to Bear's Choice, one of the few records we had. Katie Mae just floored me. And Smokestack Lightning, holy fuck!

No offense, but you all are old!

    And happy rochester '77 day!

A friend of mine told me about Get Shown the Light. I'm curious to hear it and see if the recording is better to my ears (and my equipment) than what is already in my library.

Anyone catch DSO on this tour?
Recreating 40th anniversary shows. I'm stoked for Keene on Sunday. May 21 1977 is a doozy!

Hope they did the Jack Straw justice, it is a must listen and the Comes a Time is special to say the least. Had this show playing several times in the last month, a sleeper for sure, enjoy!

They killed it tonight. Straight fire all night long. And yes the outro-solo on Comes a Time was perfection. The segue from NFA back into St Stephen was so freaking tight. Jack Straw was a monster, as was Minglewood. Great show from these guys. I really like DSO.

Last night's DSO show was fun. The FOTM jam and drums into the Other One were both excellent.

However, I'm going to say that I won't be back. Somehow the scene just didn't do it for me. The musicians do what they do well, but recreating something that has been gone for a long time wasn't hitting the right spots for me.

Sums up how I feel about dso. Jrad, while great musicians, are so far from the dead I don't see the point (they're fine if you can separate actual dead songs from the blazing guitar and drum fury). No soul, but that's not the point of jrad I guess. I wonder if they could write their own songs, rock out, and be content w 1/10 of the audience. Or just keep some dead song chord changes to jam from and skip the lyrics. I'll be at dead and co in boulder cause my wife wants to go. Last year was half-decent nostalgia trip. I kinda miss further w jk, but that probably was good to have only lasted for a little while... got stale in the end. Coming up on 30 yr anniversary of my first show. Am I old yet? Thank god for tapers.

Just getting into the mega doc about the band (finished part one). So well done--it's taking me back to the glory days of following mr Garcia

just came back to phone reception to find out my long-time yellowstone buddy to whom i introduced the dead fell down a
flight of stairs and died. we saw probably 20 shows together, including my very favorites in eugene and shoreline. we always joked we'd hook up and smoke a bowl in ashland when we turned 70. by coincidence, i'm heading for ashland today. fare thee well, adam.

    Sorry wyeaster.

I truly miss seeing shows in Eugene, that was such a great time place. Pull in the day before, find the right spot and stay for 4 days then head up to Cougar Hot Springs or out to the coast. Fresh salmon out of the river for breakfast, fresh cherries picked right off the trees at the girl scout HQ across the street and all the fresh veggies you could want from the farmers market down the street.
