i'm to poor to have actually been anywhere decent, but a place i really want to check out is the tin angel cafe. supposed to be local/organic focus hippy type joint i think, but the menu looks good. not too far from the airport either. everyone likes squatters too, i think they might have a restaurant right at the airport.

eh. I have to go there sometime... still working on finding true italian in UT - went to this authentic place (a whole glass room where they make pasta everyday) in Wisc Dells this summer that blew even some of my fav Boston & Chicago places out of the water.
a large group of us were all pretty impressed with Caputo's evening experiment:
http://tipicacaputo.com/
although my one complaint now is that it is supposed to be an ever-changing menu of fresh pastas & local ingredients, but September's menu is pretty much the same as it was in August - very minor changes. the Ragout & Ravioli were on there last time - both very good though! (I had wanted the shrimp & crab risotto, but they ran out)current ventures:

Red Rock: http://www.redrockbrewing.com/ (personally like redrock better than squatters, but that's just me...)
Mazza: http://www.mazzacafe.com/ (super reasonable prices for super delicious food)
Lonestar Taqueria: http://www.cityweekly.net/utah/view-...-taqueria.html (fish tacos by which to measure all other fish tacos)
Vienna Bistro: http://www.viennabistro.com/ (this one is definitely a bit spendy, but SOOOOO good if you have the dough -I had a coupon once, which made it feasible for me... gonna have to take my parents there next time they visit)
I've heard alot of people talking about the Tin Angel recently, too. Need to check one out for myself.

Some good recommendations in there, but if we had a type of food you wanted, it might help. Although here are two not on the list yet....
Cafe Paris (Continental Cuisine) and Takashi (Sushi).
Edit: Oh yeah, this should be in tech talk next to the SLC Philly Cheese Steak thread"I dont hike.... my legs are too heavy"

Mexican huge is food in SLC. For a quick lunch go to Lonestar. They have amazing fish tacos, and burritos the size of a football. For a good dinner with a great atmosphere, go to the Red Iguana, but count on waiting around 1/2 an hour, so plan accordingly. If it's late at night, and you're drunk and are craving food, go to Molca Salsa, it's cheap, but great when you're not sober.
If you are looking for gourmet chinese go to Cafe Trang
The Counter, in the Gateway Mall is a pretty good burger place. You get to custom build them.
For killer sandwiches go to Stoneground
And for a microbrewery/pub food, go to Squatters or Red Rock.Magic Mountain Freeride Team...bringing your grom's game to the next level.

Red Iguana! Red Iguana! Best mole ever. I keep a takeout menu on my fridge... and I live in Colorado. Just like to look at it and drool sometimes.
Blue Iguana, though apparently owned by the same family, is not the same.
I've heard great things about Lonestar Taqueria, too, but haven't been.Outlive the bastards - Ed Abbey

Red Iguana hands down. Don't be afraid of the crowds waiting outside, it is a bigger place than it appears and they do a good job of getting people in and out. Unfortunately no bar where you can wait for a table.
