What is "cool" anyways?
A recent thread has discussion claiming being cool and having a facebook account are mutually exclusive. This got me to thinking, what actually is cool anyways?
Wikipedia describes cool as:
Cool is an aesthetic of attitude, behavior, comportment, appearance and style, influenced by and a product of the Zeitgeist. Because of the varied and changing connotations of cool, as well its subjective nature, the word has no single meaning. It has associations of composure and self-control (cf. the OED definition) and often is used as an expression of admiration or approval.
So what do you all think is cool?
I'll start. In this day and age, I think originality is cool. This is probably due to the fact that after several thousand years of modern human civilization, most things worth doing have already been accomplished.
I think pow turns are cool.
Learning has to be cool.
Helping other people is cool.
I don't think talking shit to somebody on TGR is cool just because you can, and the person you are talking shit to will likely never find out who you are.

Beavis has explained this already -- stuff that doesn't suck is cool.
This is covered in his koan:

cool may also be defined as something which is socially in vogue this item or state of being then becomes popular and then loses its edge, ceasing to be cool.
Therefore cool is a socially implemented form imposed on an abstract structure, idea, theme or statement.
