Got into a maharaja as a PED tonight. Followed up with a NB Ranger. Its not even close to the maharahja but its much cheaper and still a solid choice.

edit: Oh and I gotta mention Red Lodge Ales Bent Nail IPA which is delicious. I've received word of Broken Nail IIPA, but have yet to sample it. Anyone else tried it?

7.2% ABV in a can! Good stuff too.

Modus Hoperandi is the shit. Well rounded, floral, light citrus, and very smooth. The Raging Bitch from Flying Dog is excellent too. A bit more earthy and dark, with more malt and spice. I still haven't tried the Gubna. I can't bring myself to spend $13 on a 4-pack, but I'll go to the restaurant and spend way more $$$ on beer and food.

I think Ranger is pretty meh. Mildly toasty and bitter and heavy with so little of the brighter elements of IPAs.

Looking forward to popping one of my Pliny's in the fridge when I get back from Chicago tonight ...

That was my reasoning but since I live down the street I went down and tried one. I don't know if it's $13 a 4-pack good but it's pretty close.

Also, the 4-pack concept aggravates me to no end. Just charge me for six and call it good. I understand the high-alcohol beers get this treatment but I just don't care for it.

Also Mighty Arrow Pale Ale. I rarely buy NB beer, but picked this up on a whim last year and have to admit it was good.

You know what aggravates me? Beer websites that require you to enter your birth date. What, you need to be 21 to even read about beer now?

Schralph - I've been having the Pliny's on my mind lately.

Two Sundays ago, after dinner at my mom's house, my step-dad was packing for a business trip to Philly. I just did my research the day before and saw that Russian River has a distributor in Philly. 1 + 1 = I might get to taste these beers.

So I made him a list of the Pliny's asking him to try and pick me up one. No dice, he is only bringing a carry-on aboard the plane that night.

Next morning - Monday - we find out that my step-dads sister just passed away in Dinuba/Fresno California and I have to bring my mom to the airport Tuesday and she'll meet him in California. When I get to her house at 6:00 in the AM, I see a large suitcase (checked luggage) and again I'm thinking 1 + 1 = my beer.

As I'm sitting down to make the Russian River list again, she says that she still has the list from two days ago. I mention that I don't want to be inconsiderate, but if she would find herself at a store, see if this either is available.

Well, since she has came back and hasn't mentioned anything about the beer. I'm

    Yeah, x3

    I'm digging this lately

    Ninkasi Total Domination IPA

For over the top hoppiness they make a double IPA called Tricerahops. A nice even 100 IBUs.

Probably going to get more available soon - the importers/minority investors bought Anchor Brewing last week from the founder and craft brewing revolutionary Fritz Maytag.

If you ever see Madison River Brewery Hop Juice you must get it no matter the price. The best IPA period.... about 10% as well..... I am telling you MRB is the only good thing I have found in Belgrade Montana.

Agree with you on NBB. Can't see what all the fuss is about Fat Tire, even the wife didn't care for it(I'm so proud of her ) .
Can't say I've had much of Avery's beer, will try if I have the chance...

Avery just gets it, they brew big ass beers. Belgians, IIPAs, barley wines.
Great divide is solid too. Big bodied beers there too.
Breweries that fuck around with a bunch of 4.5-5.5% ABV beers are just snooze fest.

    Agreed.

    GDBC is tasty shit, too.

Right now, I'm working on Gubna #3. It's just too tasty...

I'm headed to Denver in June, and I think we're going to try to stop in at the Oskar Blues setup for a tour/tasting...
