Finback Mochi “green tea strawberry ipa” sounded very strange, turns out it’s freaking delicious.

Enjoy the trip, always been on my list to get there some day.
My first one of these, excellent as are all the Melvin brews I have had. Mosaic tropical fruit and grapefruit/rind flavors with a slightly sweet maltiness to balance the higher alcohol content.

Interesting article about Elysian’s sale to Anheiser Busch. Space dust is a decent brew though...

I was talking to one of the AB brewers (really more of an engineer since everything is fully automated) at a small non-AB brewery south of the Fort Collins plant last fall. He mentioned they were currently trying to brew Space Dust on their 1000bbl system (designed for pale lagers) and kept blowing out $40k plate chillers. The amount of beer they dump while trying to scale a recipe is unreal. Heck, their pilot system in St Louis is 250bbls which is dumped all the time. Also got into how they brew the 2nd tier crap (Busch, etc.). Pretty fascinating discussion actually (plus he also only drinks craft beer).

That one in Iceland set you back a decent amount, huh? That is one damned expensive country for boozing.

Smuttynose brewery going to auction. They grew too big and spent so much money on their LEED gold certified building. At the same time they were brewing 'good', but not 'great' beers which did not help.

IT's all the mid-sized guys who tried to get big, but getting big ain't cool anymore, so everyone started going to their little neighborhood breweries instead.
It's going to take some serious downsizing, and reorganizing for many of these regional, mid-sized breweries to stay in business or not get bought out by INBEV.

That's too bad, I like green flash. But yeah, the "craft/micro/indy etc" beer scene is jumping the shark. Ten years ago we had one brewery in Bellingham. Now we have eleven (and counting). And if I were to be perfectly honest, about half of them are mediocre at best.
The small brewery explosion has put more great stuff out there than ever, but lots of crap too. There's a place stumbling distance from my house that has 16 taps of other people's beer (they aren't a brewery), and although they're pretty good at choosing, they still get some pretty bad kegs. Stuff that would never have seen the light of day ten years ago is marketed as the new next thing.

Smuttynose is a tiny island off the NH coast. There was a locally famous axe murder on the island back in the 1800's. Guy rowed a boat out there, killed 2 and then rowed back. I think it's like 9 miles each way. Crazy shit.

A friend brought this for my birthday and I’m just getting around to cracking it open. Sort of a traditional English style IPA (read: caramel malt) but with some citrus from the hops. Not a favorite.
