Damn, that's gonna be some good shit! Interesting choice for Joe Russo on the sticks. Love his drumming, but he's pretty heavy compared to the usual GD style. Could compliment the more jazzy style of Jay Lane really well. Should be a very cool sound!!
Skiing, whether you're in Wisconsin or the Alps, is a dumbass hick country sport that takes place in the middle of winter on a mountain at the end of a dirt road.

so after years of trying to get guitarists who don't sound like Jerry they have given up and gone with Tribute Jerry, sad.

People complain they buy a ratdog ticket and get a jazz concert
People complain they buy a PAF ticket and they get 3 hours of Phil singing
People complain they're not gonna sound like Jerry
People complain they're gonna sound like Jerry
I dunno man. If you get confused, listen to the music play.

I saw DSO twice (back to back) in June, and Ratdog in July. All great shows. Call me what you will, but as usual we had more fun at the DSO shows. "Tribute" or not, Kadlecik is great.

The first night honestly was sort of a mess. Not sure how the tapes sound as I haven't had a listen yet, but energy wise it was kinda drab in there. The whole first set I just kept feeling like I had been duped into another Ratdog gig, but they seemed to get comfortable pretty quick and the tempo slowly started to pick up. When JK started into Althea, the place blew up and it was really all gravy from thereafter. Overall I'd say it met my expectations for a first show. Bird song / Born Cross Eyed / Grow was kinda the highlight for me.
Last night opened up solid and strong with Phil driving the tempo rather than Bob and it really made a difference. China / rider, EOTW were stellar, and help>Slip>franklin's were musically as good or better than I've ever heard any band play live. Bob's singing was SUPER strong last night esp Hell in a Bucket, Stranger and OMSN. He really unleashed. This is going to be a good gig. Hopefully it's built to last.
As a side note, Jay Lane is playing better than I have ever heard/seen. He's just out of control. It was pretty apparent that he is really enjoying playing with Russo. What an awesome pairing.Last edited by BSS; 09-20-2009 at 12:03 PM.

I heard the same. With Jeff Mattson replacing skinny warren in DSO, which makes sense since he is on tour supporting DSO with Donna Jean & the Tricksters until thanksgiving. Also, a pretty solid source (promoter I know) says Mark Karan told him Ratdog is pretty much done after the Jamaica shows in early 2010. Kenny Brooks has been semi-aggressively seeking gigs for his new project too. I still think a bay area new years series is a real possibility.
So as long as Bobby & Phil don't try to sing Stella Blue or Loser, it's all good.

Pretty ironic though - Donna Jean Band opening shows for a GD tribute band.
Does that make her *fake* donna jean?
whoa.

About a week ago I was thinking if there was one song I'd ever love to hear just one more time, it would be Reuben & Cherise.
Naw, it'll never happen.
GDradio is streaming these shows right after they take place, FYI.

Do you have Hunter's Jack O Roses?
He put some good mp3s on his website years ago but I have since lost all of them. Best Reuben and Cherise ever, IMHO.
I would be stoked to find a high quality copy of this album.
