Celebrate Fourth of July Weekend at Grand Targhee Resort!

(Alta, WY – June 29, 2009) -- Grand Targhee Resort is putting the FREE in freedom this July 4th weekend with a lodging special that includes a FREE night of lodging on July 4th, $4 chairlift rides, $4 food and beverage specials and the chance to race on foot or by bike.



Guests booking a night of lodging on either Friday July 3 or Sunday July 5 will receive the night of Saturday, July 4 free! This offer is valid for all unit types in Sioux, Teewinot and Targhee Lodges at the base of the resort. Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-TAR-GHEE.



Opportunities for hiking, downhill mountain biking and soaking in the spectacular scenery abound off of the Dreamcatcher Chairlift, and single lift rides will be offered for only $4 on Saturday, July 4.



Visit the grill on the plaza for $4 specials from 11 am to 4 pm including a burger plate, hot dog plate, grilled chicken sandwich or pork barbeque sandwich. These specials include cole slaw and chips. Drink deals include $4 for four sodas, two microbrews for $4 and $1 PBR drafts.



The 14th Annual Wydaho Mountain Bike Race draws competitors from across the region for a little friendly competition on two wheels. This circuit race has become a favorite regional race for enthusiasts of all ages. Held on single and double-track at the base of the resort, this race has a new afternoon start time this year at 1:00 pm and features a cross country course of different lengths in the expert, intermediate, beginner and kids 6-12 divisions, with a starting elevation of 8000 feet. Registration fee is $35 t-shirt, BBQ and raffle ticket.



Those who would rather compete on foot are invited to participate in the NEW Fred’s Hill Climb, a race to the top of Fred’s Mountain! The registration fee of $25 includes a t-shirt and BBQ. The race starts at 1:30 pm and the course will follow a 2.5 mile route, almost 2000 vertical feet, up the Teton Vista Traverse to the summit of Fred’s Mountain.



Registration for both races will be held on the main plaza between 11 am and 12:30 pm.



At 3:30 pm kids age 12 and under can compete in the Kids Bike Race, a timed race around a loop in the main plaza area. There is no entry fee for the Kids Bike Race, and all competitors will receive a free t-shirt.



All WYDAHO racers are invited to test their bike tossing abilities at 4:00 pm during the annual Huffy Toss, which involves throwing an old, heavy, clunker-of-a-bike as far as possible. The winner receives a year’s worth of bragging rights and a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon.


The Sweetwater Pedal Challenge kicks off at 4:30, all WYDAHO racers with leftover adrenaline will attempt to ride up Sweetwater trail without removing their feet from the pedals of their bike. The rider who makes it the furthest wins $100.



Awards for the Fred’s Hill Climb will be presented on the main plaza at 3:30 pm. An awards ceremony and raffle for the Wydaho race will take place following the Sweetwater Pedal Challenge at approximately 5:00 pm on the main plaza.
