The orthopedist and neurosurgeon who patched me up last February had me stay off NSAIDS for three months.
The heart surgeon who wired my sternum back together in October said the same.
The arm and hand specialist orthopedist who reconstructed my wife's forearm after a badly healed Colles fracture felt the evidence on NSAID's interfering with bone healing is weak and said she could take them. (It's been a week and she's taking nothing.)
My son who's a trauma surgeon also feels the evidence is weak, as do these authors.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27500434 although you pretty much have to be a statistician to read it.
I've always felt that the best way to manage pain is with multiple different classes of drugs--take lower doses of multiple drugs rather than a high dose of one and you avoid the complications of max dosing.

6 one way - 1/2 dozen another.
While on rotations I asked just about every trauma / orthopod I rotated with. Some said don’t others mentioned the study above saying ehhhh weigh the pros and cons and if your kidneys are in good shape it’s fine.
Now working in family medicine I haven’t personally seen any adverse outcomes related to NSAIDs and bone health — so my thought is least amount of medicine for as short of duration as possible and supplement with topical capsaicin/NSAIDs when possible.

Double-dog dare?
Honestly it's kind of creeping me out thinking about it, we'll see.

Yup. My OS nixed all NSAIDs and steroidal AIs after TKR surgery, said inflammation is essential to healing, specifically bone stitching into prosthesis. He also warned against tobacco, smoked, sucked or chawed.
You're doing great. I was walking with a cane 5 days out, without a cane after 10 days, although avoiding slippery or uneven surfaces.

I thought there was a class action against celebrex. Some iasue i cant remember.. I might be mistaken. I remember it screwed up my guts.
Happy healing Ice. Have a few friends now with replacements. One with a double. He said the 2nd was much quicker healing. Less atrophy. He said he got on tge bike straight away. I guess he knew the level of pain was natural and it wasnt his biking making it worse.
Another local friend had his done in the summer. Ski touring after a few months of spinning the pedals has them over the moon they got the bionic treatment

Missed it. Nice work rideit. All about the bike. The tool for knees and hips for sure. Friend w the recent hip talked about a ski guide back working after a knee replacement. Same surgeon. Surgeons like active people and ghe higher rate of success. I figure they put a bit more care into it along with prescrips for the best drugs

Just finding this thread.
My limb preservation doc said no ibuprofen after trying to repair broken tibia (multiple surgeries and bone wouldn't heal). Said evidence wasn't conclusive, but cutting out IB was worth trying - couldn't make it worse.
In armchair discussions, there was talk about the body's inflammatory response - and how it naturally heals injuries based on that - so ibuprofen might interfere with inflammation and subsequent healing.
I was talking a lot of ibuprofen for years. A decade probably. Every day before my run. or Ride. Or ski. Or bed.
I've been off it for about a year and honestly, I think it's helping. Doc said bone is 'clinically healed' now, so who knows?north bound horse.
