Help with a "beachy" romantic/schmoopy/chill/cool mixtape to get my mack on
Hullo hullo,
So for nerdlove's birthday next week I'm putting together a scavenger hunt that leads all over the city where each step he has to solve an advanced mathematics problem where the answer will get him a present and a clue to get to the next destination.
Anyways, the FINAL clue is going to lead him to the world's most romantic bench which is up on this cliff overlooking the ocean where we'll watch the sunset I'll have a picnic/wine/blanket/music/candles etc set up.
Soooo... I'm trying to put together the ultimate mixtape for this special night of lurrrve and thought I could use some maggoty help.
I'd love to hear some of your suggestions... just think songs you'd like to hear playing while sitting under the stars on a long night with your beloved.
Here's what I'm thinking so far. I need about five(+?) hours of music so any and all suggestions would be appreciated!
Special Romantic Night Mix
- solsbury hill, peter gabriel
- river of love, george strait
- stand by me, playing for change
- carina, james hunter
- thrown of gold, steel pulse
- somewhere over the rainbow/wonderful world, israel kamakawiwo'ole
- everything, michael buble
- my sweet annette, drive by truckers
- catarina, joe purdy
- yo marco el minuto, mala rodruiguez
- teardrop, massive attack
- fade into you, mazzy star
- wheat kings, tragically hip
- anything by beth orton
- bunch of random taj mahal stuff
- i'm on fire, the boss
- love i lost, harold melvin
- maybe a bunch of charlie parker?
- along same lines, maybe a bunch of ella?
- three more days, ray lamontagne
- tupelo honey, days like this
- mojo workin, eta!!!
- sugar blue, jeff finlin
- sweet thing, rufus & chaka khan... so cheesy, but such a pantydropper, plus maybe it's so bad it's good kinda song. same with by your side by sade.
- walls of rock & roll, dolman
- love & happiness, al green
- save room, john legend
- let it be, beatles
- she's on a mission, slackstring
- kids MGMT (heh doesn't fit with the theme at all but i haven't been able to get this out of my head)
- dream machine, mark farina
- coming home soon, latchkey kid
- variety of lykke li stuff
- SO SO SO TEMPTED to put a bunch of chairmain of the board/otis redding/bobby darin but.... i just always play that when i'm cooking and am trying to expand my repertoire here plus if we start swing dancing we might fall off the cliff soooo....
the problem is when I got a new laptop, none of my itunes playlists transferred over, so I'm kinda working from scratch here. but that's good, right? because it forces you out of a musical rut. thoughts & suggestions are appreciatedLast edited by BeanDip4All; 05-14-2009 at 09:55 PM.

So you need 5h of music for the time AFTER he makes it to the beach and you get all down and dirty w/ him in public for 5h, and freeze both your asses off... or the 5h it's gonna take for him to find you?
Check out United Future Organization for some seriously smoove fucking music.
My other suggestion is to just go with what you have and then put that shit on repeat. I bet you have easily 3h worth of music, and after 3h he's gonna be so drunk or actioned-out and asleep he won't remember what has already played.Last edited by hop; 05-15-2009 at 08:50 AM.

These are total cheese but they remind me of 'romantic' 1980s junior school dances...might be fun to add...

Some Kind of Love - Velvet Underground
I usually don't just give away secrets like this, so your welcome.
If you time it on your mix to when you start to make your move, the lights are dim and you slowly start to slip that strap off of her (sorry, I mean his... and I hope he is not wearing a dress) shoulder... Money!Last edited by Burrrr; 05-15-2009 at 10:30 AM.

for some reason Elvis Costello's "Everyday I Write The Book" seemed like it would be a good addition (it popped into my head randomly on my way to Mammy for the mini when I inadvertently recalled your thread about a Luvy/Duvy Mixtape).
hope the scavenger hunt went well.
