Star Trek
Sabotage!
Saw it tonight after watching Wrath of Kahn with a friend today as a primer.
I gotta say, the new one is pretty damn good! New Spock is dead on, Kirk is....close I guess but no Shatner, Sulu is serviceable, Karl Urban as Bones McCoy pretty much nailed it I thought, Chekov was just about right, Scotty was a bit too ridiculous but I ended up liking him and Uhura the character is solid and the woman that plays her is just about the hottest thing since fried, sliced, re-fried awesome.
The movie could have done without the time travel bullshit, it just didn't feel necessary. Like the writers wanted some clever but lame loophole and so time travel was thrown in.
There are enough references for the hardcore dorks (Kobayeshi Maru!) to keep us coming back but not so severe that it will turn away new fans.
All in all though, if you are a fan of Star Trek, I think you'll fully get into this movie and be fired up that the actors are signed on for 2 more movies at least...I think. Lotta action, some sexy times though not what you'd think, just enough campy bullshit and all in all a fantastic franchise reboot. Much much better than the Wolverine movie. If you have a choice between the two, see Star Trek.
41 out of 47 thumbs up!thats new hampshire as fuck

oh and, they should have thrown some Klingons in there to establish Kirk's hatred of them. "DON'T trust them. DON'T believe them." Next movie I guess.

I snuck away from work and saw it this afternoon. Overall it was pretty good. Some LOL moments, especially with the Chekov/Scotty/McCoy characters. The guy who plays young Spock nailed it. What didn't work for me was old Spock. I just wish they hadn't gone there. It seemed like a bad plot device and now I guess we're in a different timeline? Boo.

Very good. Just saw it on a quasi I max screen. Well acted, pretty good story line, some funny lines for the fans of the original series.

the first six movies had a wow factor because they were so far beyond what was done in the original series.. they really felt like films. the tng movies were quite lame by movie standards and might as well have been long episodes of the tv series with slightly better effects every now and then.. and i'm a big fan of tng. this reinvention of the series is genius, they are going to make a mint. its a great sci-fi action movie and anyone could enjoy it, not just nerds (just make sure you turn your brain off first). yes you can even bring your girlfriends to this one.

Pretty good movie, definitely worth seeing.
The whole time travel thing did seem a bit contrived, but I figure they kind of needed that in there, otherwise they'd start to run out of movies to make. Now that they've established an alternate timeline, they're free to make another whole string of movies that don't interfere with the previous ones.

I have generally disliked all Star Trek movies of most of the TV series, but this movie was killer - especially, in the theater! One of the best science fiction movies in recent memory. Damn entertaining!

^^^I didn't know what to think about that either. But then I just imagined I was Spock and it made it all OK.

Uhura had a thing for Spock back in the original series. So it's not totally whack.

I dugg the film. Loved the use of 'Sabotage' by the Beastie Boys

I was thoroughly entertained. There were a few scenes that seemed heavily inspired by Star Wars, but that's fine. For instance, the Ice Planet was very Hoth-y (complete with monsters!) and the Kirk/Nero battle inside the Romulan ship was a mix of the Cloud City and Death Star Vader/Luke showdowns from Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, respectively.
The weakest part IMO was the early Iowa JTK scene w/ the 'Vette and Sabotage. Seems a little far-fetched to be rocking to the Beastie Boys 250-some-odd years later. And did anyone notice the crappy loudspeaker in the hallway of the Starfleet outpost on the Ice Planet? You'd think the technology would have improved; it looked like it was from the '70s.
I'm looking forward to the Klingons showing up and us getting a good solid spaceship battle somewhere down the line.Last edited by hop; 05-10-2009 at 04:34 PM.

Not to mention the Kirk/Uhuru bar scene scenes was right out of the "cantina" complete with aliens drinking in dark corners... and Scotty's little alien friend was totally Star Wars.
Loved this movie, just got back from seeing it with some other maggots.
I kept expecting the old theme song to come chiming in but no...
Uhuru = mega hottie, do we see a Spock/Kirk triagle plot point in future movies?
Chekov = best of the "new" old characters in this movie.
New Spock is dead-on, dare I say better than the original?!
I thought bringing in Leonard Nimoy was brilliant, gave the movie it's legitimacy as an official Star Trek Movie and there was definitely a passing of the torch.
That was Winona Ryder as Spock's mom!! who knew. She could of had more scenes...
Bruce Banner/ Troy's Hector as bad guy Nero = Meh...Cool facial Tats though!
Best Star Trek movie ever...definitely gonna be some sequels.

I liked it a lot, and I liked the direction they took on it that means there is absolutely no way they can crap on all the "OG" movies and series. Very respectful and sensible.

I grew up watching the original Star Trek on TV after school in the 70s. I thought the movie was fun but nothing amazing. Not that I expected anything else.
Gaila played by Rachel Nichols was fucking hot; Uhur's green roommate. I'm not kidding.
This is a bad pic.
