Brian Fallon aka Gaslight Anthem Lead Singer...

... this shit is amazing!!! Not only is the sound utterly raw, gripping and thought inducing from such a young musician, but it is some of the best song writing in a while .... along the lines of Westerburg, McMurtry & Ritter albeit a sound of his (band's) own.

this stuff will grow on you like an addiction to meth, rock or Alta Pow with every listen. so damn good!!!!

enjoy Ice, Tipps, Woods and all those back east that can slay at handball!!!

p.s. this stuff makes me want to smoke a 'boro and do a shot of Jameson .. and I hate both passionatly

Bringing this (very short) thread back to life

I've just been getting into these guys, holy fucking shit. Next chance I get, buying both albums and the EP. I've downloaded bits and pieces of both albums and I can't stop listening. Best newish album I've heard in quite a while.

If anyone has heard anything about these guys, you've obviously heard comparisons to Springsteen. It's definitely there, especially lyrically, but they are not just some knock off band, there is something else there. To me they sound like what Social Distortion would've sounded like if Mike Ness had never had the smack problems and they had been from NJ instead of Orange County. Not sure if I can exactly explain why, but it makes sense in my own head.

Enough comparisons have been made to other bands, so I won't suggest fans of certain bands check these guys out, I just suggest that fans of Rock and Roll check them out.

My personal favorite song of their's at the moment:

Since there is an obvious Springsteen influence, pretty cool to see that the Boss approves:

I'd like to think the subject of this song would approve too:

FYI for Boston mags, they're playing the House of Blues on Saturday. Tickets are still available.

I came to find this band comparatively late (between '59 Sound and American Slang) but have been catching up.

I frequented the basement bars that they reference in their lyrics quite a bit but missed them in those years.

I've seen them a few times recently and even caught them in Asbury Park last December when Bruce came on to play Americsn Slang with them. Stellar. Saw them in June at an intimate place in Brooklyn.

Here's a pretty long interview Fallon did with my buddy earlier this year (hope this imbed works):

    And a NY Times interview:

I'll be seeing them again at Terminal 5 in NYC in late November.

Here's the thing, I want to like them, I really do. They seem like great guys and everyone likes them, but. I just can't get into them. They remind me TOO much of springsteen and I just don't like that guy. Springsteen is something of a douche to me and I can hear him in gaslight anthem.

I listened to "american slang" for a good month on heavy rotation and I just couldn't love them. I fell back to social d and just dropped the anthem habit...

Someone help me out, cause like I said, I REALLY wanna like these guys.

Huge fan. Saw them live at Sasquatch where they were under-billed but still blew away the main stage.
HOWEVER they do mostly play in one key, rarely changing the formula for songs. The new album has a few tracks that are re-writes of songs off the '59 sound album.
That being said they still rock and remain in constant rotation in my playlist
Check out the "Horrible Crowes" it's Brian Fallon's side project. It's ok but worth a listen.

One of my favorite bands opened for them a couple years back at the House of Blues in Boston. Next morning I had my appendix out...

Here's a song of him singing one of their songs with them (Chamberlain).

Brought to you by Carl's Jr.

Overwrought and trying a little too hard. You want to be the world's greatest bar band, you have to have some fun.

The Hold Steady is much better.
