It handled just like a good lady, soft with a nice mid flex. Fish on, it wasn't very sensitive. I'm sure it would be able to handle something larger. I would say that she is a perfect large/smallmouth bass rod.

The wind was blowing steady on Friday. It loaded like a champ and stuck that litte #20 anywhere I wanted it to go.

The little stretch of public access before Wolcott if you are driving west from Edwards. Across the road from the post office.

FYI, I'm handing the rod off to Mary Jane Hottie tomorrow.

I added a "Made in Detroit" sticker to the shipping tube. I thought it complimented the "Say yah to da U.P., eh!" sticker nicely.

    Cheers!

This is a pretty cool idea. That rod will be well travelled and catch a shit ton of nice fish this season! If people had more time on their hands to write about their favorite fishing holes that they took the rod to...it would make for a REALLY cool book. Pictures and maps covering all of the maggots favorite fishing holes around the world...obviously it would take a couple seasons, and we would need more maggots that fish to spend time in this forum, but anyhow...just thinking of the possibilities of The Travelling Rod: Some catchy title of the worldwide fishing adventures of a single rod that bind the maggots together...

Sweet - adding stickers to the rod tube = nice touch. I will have one from my area to add when I get my hands on it.

Looking forward to seeing more photos!

Does anyone know of a free online mapping site where we could visually track the progress of the rod across the country? ...keep track of distance travelled, etc...??

Map my walk/run? My wife uses that to calculate running routes and it seems like it would work. I'm not even sure of the actual web address or anything, but if someone wanted to do a search and figure it out, it might work.

Maria left the metro area in light rain that briefly turned to snow in Wyoming. Things cleared nicely and several days of solid fishing ensued. The rod was paired with a Ross #2 and windcutter line. Worked very well and landed most of the fish pictured. Many beers and rum drinks, grilled shore lunches, great times.

    Good luck Wart, your next.

The rod made it's way to sunny FLA this past weekend. It has caught 2 camera shy Bass so far. It will be getting salty this weekend. I had a little competition at the golf pond last night. He was a better fisherman than I.

Here is the rod in action at my secret spot- caught a nice 3-4 lb bass right after this photo, but the pic was out of focus, and the fish was too lively to deal with. He hit it right at shore- and I had about 3 seconds of fight on the rod. I shoulda let him run for a bit.

    More to come.

Rod may consider retirement in FLA after her tour. She looks pretty comfortable in that golf course community. Can't wait to see some salty fish Wart!

    Sick Pants Fish MJH!

Did you actually catch that with "rod" or did you just snap it out of the river with those fingers?

Just about ready to send her on her way. She caught several bass, some small sea trout, and some other small stuff not worth mentioning. I gave her a solid effort on Friday and Saturday.

Friday threw at some big reds in the mangroves. It was prolly a good thing they weren't eating. I don't think she would have handled them too well. Then it was on to the grass flats. I caught a couple smallish trout while drifting the flats.

Today- left the house at 5:30, on the water by 6. Fished the beach with Maria- no go. 5-10 mph winds this morning, 10-15 mid morning. Went deep- 12 miles off shore- 3 to 4 ft seas. Caught a bunch of Kings, Spanish Macks, and Bonita. Maria was along for the ride, but only as a spectator. Back to the Skyway Channel to look for Tarpon rolling. Found a ton of small macks crushing bait all over. Maria got cut off first cast. Took out the 10 wt with wire leader, and got a couple. On to the secret Snook spot. We took one on live bait about 2 min. after setting up. Nice 29 incher. I waded and Maria tried her best, but nada. Home by 2. Good day. Sorry I couldn't get any good salt pics with Maria.

I'll be hitting the 6th hole at the golf course tomorrow. It is brackish, with 2 huge inlets coming in from the bay. Snook, Tarpon and trout are in there this time of year. I'll try to get the ultimate photo- snook on golf course.

By the list below, it looks like L8APX is up next. PM me an adress, and I'll get her rolling tues or Wed. Let's keep copying this list on this thread. It was 3 pages back already.

Caught 1 and only one fish tonight- good thing it was a nice one.

Perfect cast right under the low hanging branches- strip strip- BANG.

Actually had to fight this one out- rod handled it pretty well. It also handled the 20+ mph wind to my back pretty well too.

Still waiting for that PM L8APX. Till then, I will fish it when I can.

Edit- This is either the first, or the first fish worth mentioning that I have caught on my own fly. I am sending it along with the journal. It is a Redfish fly we call "the gurgler". Bass seem to dig it too. Hook is pretty large, so it is definitely a big bass fly. It floats to the top, gurgles and splashes when slow stripped, and dives when fast stripped. Pretty good little fly.

Nice ending to Maria's brief southern swing, looking forward to seeing that fly!

Hope L8 gets in touch soon...I don't wanna miss this baby for June 3.

If you don't hear from him soon, since it's almost June, ship it to me and i'll get it to L8 right after. It's not scheduled to be with AKPM until July 15th, so there's plenty of time after my go around to get back to L8.

Time flies so let me know what you want to do. I'll PM you my addy.
