THE OFFICIAL TGR Traveling Rod TR Thread
It was tough conditions for a 6wt, but I finally broke her in properly on Sunday, April 5. The water was up and moving and holding on to 10lb + steelhead was going to be a chore, but she held up. Ended up hooking into three steelhead all on small nuke flies. First was a large, chrome steelhead fresh into the river. A few good head shakes and a hard run and away she went. Second was a modest size steelhead out of a small run that's always been a good producer for me. A few good runs and some around some rocks it went and busted off. At this point I'm thinking I'm never going to land anything, but after a quick re-tie I sided back up into the same run and fish on. While it's not the biggest fish in the river.......it's something and it's a first. So I give you the first fish caught on the TGR Traveling Rod.

My wife just called to let me know a couple UPS packages just arrived. I plan on getting out next Thursday through Sunday. "Maria Rod" will be shipped to the next participant Monday April 20th (4:20 dude). I would get her wet this weekend but I have family obligations because of the holiday.
I think Warthog is next. Please PM me your shipping info...

It's tough waiting for the rod. I wish the rockies crew woulda signed up for a spring run. Can't wait till it comes out this way.
We will slay some trout! (catch and release, of course).

Who's after me? I'll be pretty quick with it. One weekend on the Salt, and 2 or 3 nights on the golf ponds. Should give it a taste of at least a couple different feeshes.

Should be exciting to see the salt posts! Who's gonna show up with a pig of a redfish that's worthy of a 10wt?
Maybe a FL bass?????

Maria Rod Update
OK, so I did get on the river for about an hour yesterday with Maria. I just couldn't wait to test her out. This is not my official TGR traveling rod entry. I plan to giver proper this weekend.
The wind was really blowing on the Deckers section of the South Platte. I would have caught larger fish if I could have thrown a dry (BWO are starting to turn on!), but the wind was too crazy. So with a #20 Egg and a #20 Ju Ju dropper I landed three little rainbows (hardly worth a post).
Such a big rod for such little fish.

It is a very confusing time of year... skiing/fishing, fishing/skiing... what is one to do?

Just a little update for the nervous parents. "Maria Rod" and I will put some elbow greese into the effort next weekend. Then she will be shipped to Warthog 4:20.The beatings will continue until moral improves!

Good to see she made it out. How did you like the action on it? I felt it was a little soft for my liking, but she got the job done.

That rod is going to have the best season ever! One suggestion. Does Wart have something special set for his time or should we avoid shipping back and forth from CO and FL(I assume that's where he is)? I could pick up from burrr and ship to FL after some use?

MJH, I'm cool with what ever everyone agrees on. I'm not sure if Warthog had anything scheduled or not for his time with Rod. You guys just let me know, it will be in Denver on Monday for a hand off or to be shipped.

You can use it next MJH. I have nothing special for it, just the usual. I'll PM you my shipping info later.

Oh yea! 2 for 2! I hope I'm not the first to throw up an 0-fer on her.
What were your thoughts on how it handled that size fish?...And the greatest ice must crumble when it's flower's time to grow.
