TR: GULMARG '08/09 - TERRAIN, PT. ONE

THE TERRAIN AT GULMARG, PT. ONE

This is the Pir Panjal range running from SE at left to NW at right, as seen from Tangmarg. This range defines the SW perimeter of the Kashmir Valley; the Gulmarg gondola reaches the main ridge three spines south of the summit. As one can see the snow cover at Tangmarg on 9 January is zero.

From G3, a good look at the numerous bowls south of Gondola ridge that mainly drain towards Drung village, some 13 kilometers downhill. Tea House ridge in the foreground, 8 February. Photo: F. Fuchs.

Showing a fine step-up/hip combo jump at the bottom of Sheenmal (Shaggy's) Bowl. This was 19 February, and foreign visitors to Gulmarg had peaked - it was a week of going-away parties.

From Lunch Rocks 16 February, looking directly into Hapat Khued Bowl, one of many bowls south of the Gondola ridge.

Another view of Hapat Khued Bowl on 6 March, showing the low traverse to G3, and in the low center, the step-up/hip combo jump at the bottom of Sheenmal (Shaggy's) Bowl.

Fun lines in the conifers down low in the Trajan Bowl, south of Hapat Khued Bowl, 6 March.

Tower 13 Bowl, towards Hapat Khued, 6 March.

Southern bowls & ridges, 6 March.

Showing a well-built, Finnish kicker atop the Tea House ridge, low in Gondola Bowl, 6 March.

Showing the same Finnish kicker atop the Tea House ridge, four days later (10 March), still unridden.

Showing a large ramp (center) built on a knob three ridges north of Gondola Ridge, just above the Paper Trees, 10 March.

gulmarg is flat, you should never go there.

That said, it is not as consistently steep as jackson, etc. but, if you know where to look it delivers.

Terrain looks like it has lots of potential despite some people saying its flat. Hell Ill ski something flatter in more snow.

Sweet pics and thanks for sharing
