You'll have a real one to weigh by next week.

Putzing around on wrenchscience with the build I am using puts it at ~32lbs.

    Perfect.

I broke the news to T at dinner last night that I was getting a new frame.

She starred me down. Then I said I was selling a bike and all was well.

interesting comments about that guy about the stupid high and far aft pivot location on that bike
id be curious to read stuff he wrote about other bikes i might be more familiar with
would also help to know his height re TT length.

with all that stuff, 9.5 sounds perfectly reasonable imo

dont go too weight weenie on this
    run both front rings imo

did you buy one of these too marsh?

rontele got the last one of the current batch. i am debating if i need to sell some stuff to get 1 from the next batch (2-3 weeks)... i would need to partially dissassemble my hardtail and use some random spare parts to make it happen, only need a fork and frame.

Hmmm. I can't believe I'm going all weight weenie on this, but it seems a bit heavy for a 5" bike. I wonder if its gonna be a bit sluggish with the weight, pivot/axle path and HA.
I'm stoked to see it, and I'm sure it will rip, but a 5" bike with a >32lb build seems a little 2003.
Sorry Dave, not hating, it just really bucks the sub 30lb, 6" travel zeitgeist...which I think is a good trend overall.

I was really just looking for an excuse to use "zeitgeist"

FWIW if i just put all my xc parts from my hardtail on this frame, i would ring in at 28.5lbs w/ pedals... this would an x9 build kit with wide dh bars and a dh stem, but 1520g wheelset, setup tubless, with 2.25 schwalbe tires, and a float 140mm fork.

so... a low slack, plush bike that is 28.5lbs is pretty pimp. i'd take that over the same weight yeti 575 for sure. even a 26.5lb xtr 575 really.

but, i would rather have a bike that basically doubles as a slopestyle bike that you can pedal and totally rally. call me crazy. you will be impressed by the suspension feel once you ride the thing though. for sure!

    hater

I have a sweet fully carbon xc bike with a 73 deg. ha you can ride. It weighs 19 lbs.

you'll need to buy some spandex, however.

wow. that review makes it sound so sweet. The geo on that thing is perfect.

How much effort, or rather money would it take to get this thing under 30lbs? Could it be done with a decent build/XC wheels?

yo flow. learn me. Say I want a 5 or 6inch bike and it MUST be under 30 pounds. for riding XC in Crested Butte. want slack/low/dhish type ride. Long climbs more flowy/fast downhills than gnar. must rip the zeitgeist outta shit. whatchu got?

    Z,

Is the 30 lbs limitation due to the tremendous amount of pedaling required from town to some of the trailheads (i.e., 401)? I bet you could build it up around the 30 lbs mark, but you would have to make sacrifices (the first that comes to mind is tires). I ultimately defer to Joe and Marsh because they are around bikes more than I, but if you got this thing to weigh in at 32 lbs, you could still pedal it far distances and not make too many performance or durability sacrifices.

    marque is 67 / 13 with a 510mm A-C fork

    definitely out does the enduro

it also had an adjustable headset, so it can also just as easily be 66 / 13 with a 510mm

Marque + Lyrik Solo Air up front. Get it closer to 66* HTA and raise the BB up a touch would made me a happy rider on the chunky, rocky stuff out east. Maybe play with the +/- 1* headset cups and raising dropping the fork to come up with the blend of HTA and BB height that feels best.

I'm hoping no real issues crop up for people with these over the summer. If nothing bad comes up, I'll be ordering up a medium to swap parts to next winter.

Anyone want to buy a Sultan and/or WB Fluid 135 fork?

I figured you would have posted earlier in this thread. I wrote it off as intermitten internet access at your Unabomber shed.
