soft tissue damage to ligaments
3 weeks ago i pulled a t-hall and undershot a ~40ft gap, landing on my locked right leg. the boots i was wearing fit poorly and (probably not because of this) i sustained severe damage to the ligaments in my ankle. i wasn't able to walk properly for a week and still can't jump, run, stand on my toes, go into a full squat, or ski. i'm dying here, i can't do any sort of physical exertion or even walk to the god damn bus stop without pain. there's still a huge bruise that's sort of c-shaped under my ankle. to boot, if i slip or misstep so that my weight ends up on the injured foot i get a lot of pain on the outside of my lower leg and ankle.
so, my question is: has anyone had this kind of thing happen to them, and how long does it take to heal properly? i've seen a physio, should i be doing anything else? i'm starting to get worried as i haven't seen much progress at all.

What's a "physio" and what did he/she say? I'd be chatting with orthopedic surgeons. If there's "severe damage to the ligaments in your ankle," shouldn't you be consulting with ankle specialists about it? Not trying to be snide or anything, but it's hard to get medical advice over the web (from non-MDs, for the most part, I should add) when you don't seem to know exactly what's wrong. Good luck man.

Sounds like you have an ankle sprain with some partial tearing of ligaments. Pain in the lower leg might also be a sign of a high ankle sprain, which takes longer to recover from. It would be beneficial to engage in light physical activity (such as walking) to help the healing of the ligaments, unless it leads to great discomfort. It is normal to still feel some pain/discomfort, and have residual swelling etc. after 3 weeks, but you should probably see a doctor if you don't see improvement soon.

You need to be seeing someone about this. See your GP/Emerg and have them refer you to an orthopod.
It could be nothing, but you could have anything from a fracture to sprained ligaments.

Yes, see your doctor. Don't mess around with the health of your joints.

thanks guys, i'm seeing the physiotherapist again tomorrow and will set up a doctor's appointment. i had an xray which showed no fractures but i suspect i really tore up my ATL, sort of a type 2.5 sprain. i figured i was young and this would just sort of go away but i keep re aggravating it and i really don't want it to be a problem down the road so i will be seeing a specialist.
