TR: Fade to Black on a Fool Moon 03/11/09
Solo Dusk Patrol up Mt Snoqualmie.
I tried to get a dusk patrol going Tuesday night but couldn't get any takers, so instead I worked late and cursed at the moon while driving home. Went up last night, dropped the kids for race practice at 6pm and headed across the street for some redemption.
racing the light up a steep ass skin track
the objective rock at the top still in the sun but fading fast
the lights come on
and then the light fades out
I topped out just before 8pm, it was 10F with some wind so I didn't hang around too long and the full moon hadn't come up yet. Glad I didn't wait as it was after 9pm before the Fool Moon started to show. I had to pick the kids up beore 8:30 anyway, so I began a 3100ft descent into darkness.
The ski down was a bit difficult at times- the South facing exposure had signficant sun crust in the open after clear skies the last two days. But there was great pow still in the trees, where even with the headlamps blazing it was still a bit of ski by feel.
Still, much better than working late.Move upside and let the man go through...

I skinned up snowmass on the 10th, similar sunset, I did get the full moon ski though... awesome. Your backdrop of the ski area with lights though is pretty cool

Funny, I was at Alpental watching the sunset and wishing I had my skins for a trip up that way. Next time send me message and maybe I'll join you.

Argh, I was on the verge of calling you yesterday to see about doing a dusk patrol. I can't remember what my excuse was for not doing so, but it was probably something lame.
Considering pre-work dawn patrol tomorrow......

Sounds very cool. I'd like to try headlamp skiing sometime (in humble surroundings, of course).
