Did those skis get run over by the fuckin plane. How does that happen, honestly? To two pairs. Hope all goes well man, just another reason to hate the airlines.

Thanks for the support y’all, and thanks especially to whorehey for the memories….

….I remember my skis fondly, we had some good times together…..quiet, powder filled days, trips to AK, the Alps, meeting Dr. What?, the 19 day road trip across British Columbia, Mammoth minis, that comforting click of my boots locking in, the way they greeted me in the off season with the promise of the season to come………...gulp, I feel empty inside.

Anyway, those were in fact B4s and not squads – maybe if they were squads they would have protected the Lotussssss (Loti?)

I sent off a certified (return receipt requested) letter to Central Baggage Services in Dallas today, including copies of all the receipts, and some nice 8x10 glossies of the carnage - just in case they “misplace” the skis while in transit to their facility.

I’ll post again when I hear something, (or after I fail to hear something in a couple of weeks).

Remember, don’t go to bed angry at your skis – you might not have another chance to tell them that you love them.

what type of bag did you use?
So after falling asleep while watching the latest ski movies I dream't of dropping in on some of the steepest slopes coved in the deepest and lightest powder I have never found in my life. I awoke on my couch covered in sweat and my hart racing at what must have been at least 120 bpm. I LOVE THIS SHIT!

They were in a K2 double roller - no padding in the thing, but I don't think padding would have done much to protect against the kind of force that was unleashed upon them.

I personally have a DaKine roller - Fall Line Double. And lots of padding.

If you use a sporttube, be sure to upgrade the retention bolt to something more substantial than the stock plastic block. Once that falls out, the whole thing comes apart...smart people just go to a simple household bolt and nut.

OP - check your renter's/homeowner's insurance policy. Mine covers personal belongings away from up, up to 10% of total policy value. You might be able to fall back on that if southwest doesn't come through.

Yeah, and next year when you have a real problem like a roof leak pouring into the living room or a hit and run in the front yard taking out your fence, they drop you because you've had "too many claims" over too short a period. And now that you're in a high(er) risk category, nobody else will pick you up unless you're willing to pay them 3x the premium you paid your last carrier. It happens. Frequently.

Your insurance doesn't need to pay for this. That's not what they're for. Go for SW's jugular and don't let them off the hook.

It sounds like you are going for compensation for "Pain and Suffering", or at least loss of conjugal activity

Here are a few to help your cause, and show what an intimate relationship you had with the Loti.

I just saw this video about United Airlines breaking this guy's guitar and thought about what happened here with Southwest. Did Southwest ever make good on replacing the skis? If not, maybe they deserve a song too.

Full Story: http://www.davecarrollmusic.com/story... - In the spring of 2008, Sons of Maxwell were traveling to Nebraska for a one-week tour and my Taylor guitar was witnessed being thrown by United Airlines baggage handlers in Chicago. I discovered later that the $3500 guitar was severely damaged. They didnt deny the experience occurred but for nine months the various people I communicated with put the responsibility for dealing with the damage on everyone other than themselves and finally said they would do nothing to compensate me for my loss. So I promised the last person to finally say no to compensation (Ms. Irlweg) that I would write and produce three songs about my experience with United Airlines and make videos for each to be viewed online by anyone in the world. United: Song 1 is the first of those songs. United: Song 2 has been written and video production is underway. United: Song 3 is coming. I promise. Follow me at http://twitter.com/DaveCarroll. Video Produced by Curve Productions of Halifax, http://www.curveproductionsinc.com.

I forgot to update y’all on how this turned out.

After submitting copies of my purchase receipts for the B4s, the Loti, the bindings and the poles, (the bag was a gift, so no receipt; thanks to the folks at DPS for mailing a full set of receipts within a week of my request), I eagerly awaited for a response from Southwest. A couple of weeks later, I received a letter back from the claims division that reiterated the need for original receipts to be submitted. I called and left a couple of messages with the claims rep stating my concerns about sending my original receipts to them, but never received a return call. A couple weeks later, I received a check for about 75% of my total claim. Although I was a bit disappointed at not receiving the full amount, a friend pointed out that if I refused to cash the check I would risk being in claims limbo forever. So I caved, cashed the check, and got these:

Since then I have flown with skis on Southwest. What can I say? They’re cheap, go to where I want to go and don’t stick you with ridiculous baggage fees. Last time I flew with them, the person who checked my bags made a big deal of pointing out that they were not responsible for any damage done to my skis – don’t know if ridiculous damage is included. Lessons learned:

    1. Shit happens
    2. Save your receipts
    3. Stick to your guns – to a point
    4. The folks at DPS are really nice

Thanks for the support and ski lend offers - good luck to all who fly with their sticks.
