What is the best route from Vegas to mammoth in the winter? Is Westgaurd pass open? Also best route if it's snowing.

    Thanks,

If it's snowing in Vegas, it'll be the biggest shitshow you've ever seen.

Somebody else will chime in with the fastest, best, etc, but here's the route i'd do.

South on I15 to Blue Diamond Road, breakfast at the Silverton. Out Blue Diamond to Pahrump. Or, if downtown, just head out Charleston past Red Rocks and avoid all the construction on the first part of Blue Diamond road. Go thru Pahrump, + 2-3 miles, left on Bell Vista. All the way to the T in a half hour, a right and a quick left, you're on CA190, heading in to Death Valley. Stop at Furnace Creek, get in 18 holes. Then back on 190 to Lone Pine, up to Mammoth from there.

Then take the fast route, whatever it is, on the way back.

and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

I haven't done it in five years, but Westguard pass was the best route. One of the strangest roads I've ever driven.

Head north on the 93 (I think it's the 93) and make a left at the third or forth brothel, which as I recall is the Moonlight Ranch. That road will take you through Death Valley and dump you out somewhere near Lone Pine.
    Daniel Ortega eats here.

That's the 95. Moonlight Bunny Ranch is up by Reno. You need to take the left at the only stopsign on 95. It's 2 miles before the brothel on the left with the naturally spring fed swimming pool known as Angel's Ladies before it closed down a year or 2 ago...

I agree. We did it a month ago in the middle of the night under the influence of incredible sleep deprivation and driving a gay cvt Sentra. It was fun, surreal landscape even at night.

+1 Done this trip both ways many times.

Solid drive and probably the most direct route.

Get Gas and snacks in Pahrump, then don't stop till you hit the BBQ place in Bishop

PS. Bring Radar detector, try floorboarding the car below sea level

If you're gonna ask for directions based on brothels....

I don't know the names of anything except to say you go through Mohave for the ugly desert route, Scotty's Junction (I think) for the purty Death Valley desert route, or go all the way past Tonopah to that old truck stop turnoff for the full-on boring Nevada drive.

Two bigest speed tranps where you really want to make time.

    Between Blue Diamond and Parump

And then on that long downhill out of Parump heading into Death Valley. but hell you can see any car for 15+ miles. Warning they park out there in the middle of nowhere looking to nab the 100+ MPH crowd
