$45 seems cheep for a big name show, seems like most are around $100 with all the fees.

Back to the Wolfmother-Patton feud for a sec...

Can someone explain why it's such a bad thing that Wolfmother sounds like Sabbath/Zep/etc.? Sure, they're not the most original band in the world, but they're still writing new songs that are reasonably good and obviously connect with a large number of people, and the dude can definitely sing (at least, on album - never seen them live). Seems to me like there's room for the Pattons of the world (who are geniuses and wholly original, but at a cost of sometimes making music that's "interesting" without being in any way "listenable" - see Fantomas and much of Disco Volante) and the Wolfmothers (who play good songs that are clearly derivative of some bands from the '60s and '70s). But man does the hate get piled on Wolfmother.

@Pegleg -not hatin' on wolfmother but more just defending MP's comments from being hypocritical. mike explores the boundaries. wolfmother stays within the safe zone imho. whatever, who cares right? opinions and assholes.

btw, when's the last time you listened to wolfmother since this thread? i've listened to King for a Day just the other day. it's an album that pushes the envelope every time i hear it.

ps. why did i bump this thread you might ask? search hit and tr forthcoming.

19 hrs in Philly & FNM

thanks for the bump that reminded me about my tr.

    Saturday July 3rd, 2010

Thursday night I found a good price on airplane tickets with hotel for the Philly Faith No More show. Stubhub had two concert tickets for $30. It was all in the ballpark of the 3 day Cochella tickets, but at a much better venue. Plus I had never been to Philly. Flight departed San Diego at 6 am. Why I hate flying:

Touched down in Philly at 5 pm. Taxi claimed not to know how to get to the concert venue, good thing I had printed google maps. I had him drop me a bit away from the venue, so I could see the building's stairs that Rocky ran up.

View of downtown while waiting to go in:

Doors opened around 6 pm and I drank several local micro brews while trying to find shade. The heat was insane.

The Hop devil was the best. Everyone smokes in Philly and by the looks of them, they all seem to eat a lot of cheese steak. I was happy to see a Stone Brewing tshirt, they really are getting big.

Opening act was a beat box guy, that was pretty entertaining. They also had a comedian that told bad jokes that most people booed, but I thought was kind of funny.

    Now for the main show...

Mike put on a good show crowd surfing and all that. The venue was also really good. Crowd was really into the show:

    Set list:
    Reunited
    From Out of Nowhere
    Be Aggressive
    Caffeine
    Evidence
    Chinese Arithmetic (featuring Rahzel)
    Surprise! You’re Dead!
    Last Cup of Sorrow
    Easy
    Midlife Crisis
The Gentle Art of Making Enemies
    Ashes to Ashes
    Ben
    King for a Day
    Epic
    Just A Man

    Chariots of Fire/ Stripsearch
    Digging the Grave
Mike climbing up onto the light rigging during "Just a Man"

Show was really good, but I was hoping for a >2 hr show. Started at 9 and ended at 1045. Took a cab after the show downtown with some people from Detroit, it was a bit tight and hot in the cab. Walked down to the liberty bell:

    Independence Hall:

Then walked down to South Street. Got some cheese steak:

Walked over to a pub after cheese steak and ordered a pint of Yuengling, PA's PBR. After that, walked around South Street for a little bit, but was the only white guy around and I decided to catch a cab to the hotel when I noticed the police clearing the street. Again the cab drive claimed not to know how to get to the hotel, I think it most be a scam they run to try and get extra money out of tourist.

Plane departed the next day at noon. Bye Philly, get me out of this heat!

    fuck yeah.

they played here in switz a month ago but it was a festival (not close) and a bit too much to ask to slog thru it all just for an hour 45 concert at the tail end of a long day. i saw them twice back in the day. i have the download festival show on divx and it's kinda weird seeing bald FNM members.

btw, i my search hit wasn't for FNM...guess? winner gets a chicken dinner.

Hope you saw it, hope you enjoyed it. I did! Maybe in another 12 years.

FAITH NO MORE have reportedly announced plans to play their final gig in Chile. The band reformed for a series of UK and European festival dates in 2009 - 11 years after they first split in 1998 - although the line-up did not include guitarist Jim Martin, who left the band in 1993. However keyboardist Roddy Bottum confirmed the band will play their final gig in Chile before splitting. "It's true, we're giving Santiago [Bicentenario de la Florida] what they've asked for. We're wrapping up the FNM reunited tour in Santiago, Chile on December 5!!!!". Although plans were initially in the pipeline to record a new album, Bottum said the gig will mark the end of the band.
