Sushi Pier II....correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Tuesday night the all you can eat for $18.95 deal?

My review of the two sushi restaurants I've visited in Reno:

    Sky Terrace / Atlantis casino:
    Pretty good. I enjoyed it.

    Sushi Boat:
Meh. Probably wouldn't go back again.

Sushi Pier is good, but I've been digging Sushi Moto lately. Off of South Meadows.

It like it a lot too, similar in a way to Wasabi. Wasabi is closer to my house so it gets the nod.

Sushi Pier's eponymous long roll is f'ing awesome!

One of my rules, if you can’t smell the ocean don’t eat the sushi. That being said enough trips to Reno says that you can’t go wrong at either Pier or Moto. Enjoy

I'm gonna give the nod to Wasabi... hilarious yet extremely polite sushi chefs... Sushi Moto a close second; awesome yellowtail.

But, the best in the area is the Naked Fish, down in south lake... they don't fly their fish in (more than a day or 2 old method); they DRIVE it in everyday, straight from the docks down in San Fran... It's some fresh-ass shiz.

Yup, I just dropped serious coin at Naked Fish the other day because I was craving some damn good fish.

Nigiri in Reno is a joke. The fish is edible, but it's hardly spectacular. I had some good fish at the Oceano in the Peppermill once. No surprise though since it's a la carte. I keep meaning to check out the place in the Atlantis one of these days.

As for the all you can eat places, I'll take Sushi House in Sparks over the others any day. It's in the shopping center on Baring Blvd off of Sparks Ave. A coworker and I actually go there about once a week. Their rolls are quite good, the staff is really nice, and they just added new stuff to their menu. Some of their new rolls are pretty damn tasty. Oh and the new menu doesn't limit what you can order for lunch. It's a couple of bucks cheaper than the other places too, but the quality isn't any cheaper in my experience. Just don't go there between 11:30 and about 12:15 on a weekday. The high school kids from across the street invade the shopping center and are quite obnoxious.

Hiroba on Skyline is also good too. The Pier is overrated. It's better than a lot of the other swill in town; but it's relatively expensive and the menu is limited, especially for lunch.

Edit: Any sushi place worth it's salt should offer real wasabi. I'm not talking about that bullshit green horseradish most places serve. I'm talking about the real deal. The Naked Fish offers it, so does Off the Hook. I have yet to find a place in Reno that has it. I either get strange looks and/or they tell me that crap in front of me IS real wasabi. Yeah, right.

    Bump:

Don't listen to the above post. Sushi House has gone waaaaay downhill since I wrote that. A couple of the chefs quit, I'm guessing because of the decline. The big problem is the fish. The quality has gone from decent with the occasional good piece to low grade with the occasional dangerous. Seriously, a few of the pieces of fish I've had there in my last half dozen visits have been down right scary. I went from eating there nearly every week to swearing I'll never go back again. In fact it had been a few months since I last went and I got conned into going again this week. No improvement. I wouldn't eat some of that stuff cooked. Stay away. It's enough of a decline, that it forced me to dig up this old thread. I can't recommend the place in good conscience anymore.
