My weekly Alaskan heli skiing update, Week 1

I've got the job I've dreamed of since I was doing pizza down the bunny hill. I work for H2O Guides in Valdez, AK as an apprentice guide. This will be my first full season in the Chugach.

I decided to make a weekly video documenting my time up here this year. This week was a set-up week, so it was pretty calm. Thus, this video isn't all that exciting and it is all pics of the area and what we've been up to...but just watching it increases my stoke factor for what I know is coming.

The snow is deep. It coming down hard right now. We just got our heli ready today. We'll be flying into the range and getting things set-up and scouted as soon as we can.

    Your job does not suck!
Be careful about buying snowboard goggles for skiing. Snowboard goggles come in right eye and left eye (for goofy-footers) dominant models. This can make it hard to see correctly when skiing because you are facing straight down the hill, not sideways.

Hey all, thanks for the well wishes. It dumped over a foot in Valdez in the last 24hrs and I can't wait to get up there. We even had a 4.3 earthquake in town yesterday and there wasn't any visible movement in the snowpack...I'M STOKED! Not that that means it is totally stable, but that is a good sign of what could be happening deeper in the range.

I'm sure I'll be rockin' the fuel truck a bit, but I'll also be doing tail guiding. I promise the upcoming stuff will have head cam videos and what not and will be exciting.

Indeed the music is the Kings of Leon.

Sorry, I do not know D. Hong...what is the name of your friend though? This is a small town and I'm sure I'll run into him.

Hopefully my jong-ism with video embedding will get worked out. Thanks again for the help.

BTW...I'm trying to set up a maggot rate. I have been working with H2O for a quite some time now on the business side so I can start doing that sort of thing. If this is your year to come heli skiing let me know and I'll see what I can do.

As others have said, this has huge potential to be an awesome thread. How about some background on how you got to be where you are? I mean, you don't just wake up one morning thinking you want to be a guide in Alaska and stroll onto the next departing heli after all.
