Rossignol SC 108 - has anyone actually seen or tried them?
I someone riding some 195 SC 108s on the mountain today but, up until today, had never seen a pair in real life nor heard of anyone who had tried them.
Does anyone have any time on them? I'd expect them to be a friendlier, turnier Squad.

got a pair sitting right next to me unmounted in plastic. The tip feels softer than the 89 squads, but stiffer than 94 xxls, tail fall between the two as well. Certainly more sidecut than both, 36m, and a nice fat shovel, that still has that crud busting shape.
I'm considering selling them here simply because of overlap, though they look and feel super fun.http://tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149876Go Sharks.

I only have a few runs on them which included some breakable crust, frozen chop, and hardpack including manmade. I thought they were very stiff and slow to turn, but extremely stable over rough, frozen snow and ice at speed. Terrible in breakable crust in the trees, just not maneuverable enough for me, but good when I could let them run.
It's probably the most confidence inspiring ski I've ridden for going fast over rough, hard snow. I skied a Dynastar Pro Rider the same day and the 108 felt quite a bit smoother over the frozen chop section I used for testing damping and stability.
I have not been on Squads so I can't compare the two.

They were 195 demos. The groomers I rode were hardpacked to manmade ice. They really weren't any better or worse than other 105-110 waisted skis I've ridden in those conditions, however the Nordica Enforcer (98 waist) I skied the same day railed that stuff.
The thing that impressed me most about the 108 was it's stability and damping at speed over hard, rough snow.

Why are people picking these versus the S7 Cabellero? I see a ton of those wacky little mermaids out there!

Thought S7 was Steve Cabellero, and Koopman was S6. Anyways, just got the 2010 Rossi catalog in the mail and SC108 morphs into RC112 for next year with tip rocker and according to Rossi rep stiff as hell. If the SC108 looks really good wait till it goes on sale and grab em.

i've seen the sc108 in the shop and it is seriously f'in stiff, basically just a bigger squad.

Fixed it.
Still not sure why one versus the other.

completely different skis; jibby pow ski (S7) vs stiff charger ski (108)

Has anyone tried or seen the 185? I'm looking for something with similar feel to the 189 Squad but a bit turnier so that it can link GS turns on groomed.

I fondled both sizes at some shop in Teton Village. Looked pretty bomber but not as stiff as my old Squad 89s. I think they widened it up and softened the tip a hair, I assume they would ski rather similar to an XXL. I thought the tip was weirdly shaped, kind of like the salomon sandstorms or whatever. Wish the 108 came in a 190 or something. The 185 seems a tad small and the 195 looks freakishly long for some reason with the flat tails.

I'm worried about it being short as well, although I race GS on 185s and have no stability issues at speed in rutted courses.
What I like about it compared to the XXL is the slightly smaller turn radius. I haven't tried the XXLs but I loved the 189 Squads on groomed, although they turned a little big.

Hi D(C), I remember some of your posts from other threads. If you're looking for stable charger skis, for an ex-racer, that might carve groomers tighter than 189 Squads (R=35m), and aren't as beastly as 193 m103, then the skis to consider are:
Name Length(&runLength) Radius Waist
SuperStiffBros 192(???) 36m 115mm ***stiff like 189Squad, but a bit of a beast
Mothership 195(161.7) 25.6m 111mm ***stiff like 189Squad, must be a heavy beast
Mothership 185(155) 24m 111mm ***stiff like 189Squad
Zealot 192(???) 33m 110mm ***not sandwich/sidewall construction
XXL 194(164.5) 42m 109mm ***larger radius than 189Squad, but a bit of a beast
XXL 187(157.5) 37m 109mm ***larger radius than 189Squad
Goliath 191(164) 32m 108mm
SC108 185(???) 31.6m 108mm ***maybe almost as stiff as 189Squad? I don't know.
M1/Garbones 192(???) 35m 105mm ***maybe almost as stiff as 189Squad? I don't know.
Squad 189(162.5) 34.9m 104mm
m103 183(157.5) 37m 102mm ***larger radius than 189Squad
Squad 184(159) 25m 100mm
SuperStiffBros 188(161) 34m 99mm ***stiff like 189Squad
OldLegendPros 194(165) 32m 97mm
OldLegendPros 186(158) 28m 97mm
OldTitanPro 193(172) 29m 95mm ***stiff like 189Squad, but a bit of a beast
Most of those skis are stiff, but not quite as stiff as 189 Squads.

The manager of the shop were Bennettc14 (probably) fondled the 108s skis XXLs every day and used to ski squads everyday and said the 108s were so damn stiff they weren't any fun and sold them.
Just sayin'
They do have a pair of 185s in there and will sell them pretty darn cheap.

Awesome list, Vitamin I. Thanks for that! From your list, the ones that could work are 185 SC 108s, 186 LPs, and 185 Motherships (although the early rise tip could take away from carving performance). This gives me some options to check out. My choice will probably come down to what fits my budget/what I can trade my 193 Supermojos for ...

RC112's
I skied the Phantom RC112's at the Bird yesterday on 18" new. These skis are sick. I'm 6' and 165# and 189 length was perfect. The rocker'd softer tip and the stiffer tail are both great. You definitely have to stay on them but they tear up pow, chop, steeps and trees. They are super stable at mock speed and you can hit the back seat to recover when things get dicey. I also ski S7 188, Raven 185 for touring, Gotama 190 and Prophet130 186. I'm going to get a pair of RC112's for next season.

I ski every day at Squaw on the 108s in the195 lentgh. NOt a ski for weak complaining pussies. THey are pretty sick, they absolutely shred the wind buff and harded pack snow. They have lots of regular camber so they are pretty snappy from turn to turn. Great on steeps, great for landing big airs. The biggest defference between them and the squads is the stability. There is 0 chatter with these, and extremely stable at high speed. In fact I have never gone too fast on them, there is no speed limit. THe only negatives are not good in bumps and low angle deep pow. Steep deep pow, pretty rad.

Just to update, I ended up picking up some 187 XXLs. In spite of the larger radius, they are a friendlier, turnier 189 Squad. I guess because of the slightly softer flex, they're easier to bend into a carve and feel quite a bit like my 27 m GS skis on groomed, super stable and extremely easy to turn. But what's most amazing about them is the way they soak chopped up pow. Other skis make me want to slow down and be careful. These make me want to carve GS like on groomed. As expected, they dive compared to my Salomon Rockers, especially in heavier pow, and like a slightly more back stance in comparison. But they're more than acceptable. They don't want to pivot. They just like to rail. But you can be confident they will get you down. And the 187s are perfect. 194s would be too big for resort unless it was fresh and open.
I now know why everyone loves these.
