    Utards - forecasting question

I may be getting out to UT this weekend, so I've been diligently checking the NOAA forecasts as well as the UT avy center website. On this morning's advisory, for both SLC and Ogden, it says

But when I look at NOAA's forecasts, I don't see anything indicating 6-8". The hourly weather table for Alta, for example, shows new snow of about 1" from Thursday-Friday morning, but it also shows .24" of rain from Thu-Fri afternoon, even though the temps are supposed to be in the 20s.

Somebody help me interpret all this!

don't rely too much on that point forecast until a day or so out. that .24" of "rain" probably is water equivalent in the new snow. i'd stick with the UAC forecast as well as the NWS Cottonwoods forecast which may or may not talk about snow totals.

from what i've read, looks like 6" or so thurs/fri and maybe flurries this wknd but nothing too major. hopefully i'm wrong.
