That won't ruin it silly boy. Keep 'em treated and they're good to go for a long time. Saddle soap is good stuff, not that overpriced proofide stuff either

ps: Rontele, when you treat it don't forget to do the underside. It makes a big difference in keeping the thing supple.

Umm that sounds weird when I read it back to myself

I prefer Proofide on my underside, ha. I'm breaking in a team pro on my ss right now. Couldn't be more stoked.

I don't know which saddle soap is being referred to here but I've been told that most saddle soaps are just that, soap, but w/ enough moisturizers in them to not unnecessarily dry out the leather during the washing process. They're great for getting the crap out of the pores in boot leather, or riding tack, but personally wouldn't leave it on the leather anymore than I would leave Dial on my hands after I wash em'.

Most leather-heads I've talked to have used Mink oil (the paste) to great success, and it's cheap. Use a hair-dryer Sno-Seal style, and it' will melt and soak right into the leather

Hey, let's ride bikes on real dirt once the snow season ends.

I might just get sucked into the 29er juice. I won't admit it 'til it happens though.

That's exactly how I got into mountain biking - my aunt who lived in Boulder took me on all these dirt roads/paths around the open space with little side singletrack options. Rode for about 3 hours and loved it. I'd only tried mtb before riding up rocky loose singletrack at altitude and just couldn't figure out how it could be fun.

Nice ride D! Looks like it'd be more comfy than a cyclocross bike, but still plenty fast. Any idea on weight?

those are 1.9 karmas with a bunch of trimming to the side lugs. they fit with a bit of clearance, don't rub while pedalling, but are certainly very tight.

Go 1x10 with a 40 or 42t up front and a SRAM 11-28 in the rear. Won't get you up magnolia rd, but is great for just about everything, especially extended pavement rides to the trail.

The 42 x 11-32 is pretty good as is...

Our ride yesterday didn't have insane climbs but a good amount of hilliness.
