I am an idiot. Total idiot.

Don't worry about the waiver. It is standard affair for the photo/filming industry...

    Enjoy the opportunity.

actually no its not, Actors do it when we know we are going to get screwed on a production. Its what happens when producer says "well pay you, when the film makes money, or goes to distribution", then when it does and they dont want to pay, so the actor can say, you cant release the film with out my permission.

I'd say go for it and enjoy being able to say "I was in a Warren Miller film” It’s also about time that sitskiing/ monoskiing got more recognition. Every time I see someone doing it I am amazed.

Your last two brain cells are beating the crap out of each other. I would split them up soon.

Sitski, that stuff looks pretty standard despite it being "scary language" to the casual observer. You haven't created any demand for yourself yet, so I say sign it and get your name and icey hot skilz out there and hope for future opportunities. Send it!

^ Yah, but this isn't acting. This is filming rights for a Comp already underway. You are taking part in the Comp, not acting a part in a film. Someone wants to film what you are doing anyway, not trying to get you to volunteer for something you wouldn't have done otherwise. And yah, this is a standard agreement. I wouldn't sweat it.

What is interesting is that this Agreement would seem to be in at least some conflict with ESPN's no doubt exclusive broadcast & distribution rights. So I am sure WM has rights from ESPN for footage. You should realise that you have already been sold by ESPN to WM anyway. I would be surprised if WM didn't have to pay for the rights to film ESPN's event.

Hasn't ESPN asked you to sign the same Agreement yet? Heh ..

Btw, the way to cash in here isn't from WM. The way to cash in is to show the Agreement to sponsors & get more free sh*t you can use at XGames because, hey, you might be in a WM film. This is how it works.

That kind of thing might work on the low grade all-male gangbang stuff you probably act in, but Warren Miller isn't Queerbait Films, LLC.

Is this a new policy for WM films?

I was involved in the 2006 filming of "Off The Grid" for the MonoPalooza segment. About three minutes of screen time. Not a single person that was featured in the segment was asked to sign any kind of waiver. We were just stoked to meet and drink with Tom Day and listen to his stories.

My advice is to sign the waiver, cherrish the moment and hope it leads to bigger and better oportunities. Oh...and win the fucking race!! Good luck

    ^^this^^

I'm not worried about the waiver at all now, just wanted to get some feedback from maggots as to whether it was normal or not.
ESPN hasn't asked me to sign anything, apart from a form for prize payout. I'm pretty sure there's no prize payout for the Monoski-X anyway, but it made me think 'FKNA, this is big boy stuff!'.

Most people in a sitski ski on a single ski, hence the monoski confusion. The bi ski set-ups are generally used for people with more severe disabilities that leave them with less core stability control and balance.
Sign the waiver and win to parley it into a spot on a heli trip with WM.

It's not called sitskier-X due to a program in Aspen which calls itself a monoskiing program for disabled skiers. I beleive the program was this one:

    www.challengeaspen.org

While they do some great things with disabled athletes, there was some corporate sponsorship BS that went one behind the scenes and for some reason really pushed ESPN to not call it sitskier-X.

I was repremanded numerous times for not calling it monoskier-X while working at SportsMEDIA, but never got a clear explination. I also prety much flushed everything I remember from that poace down the brain urinal when I left, so my memory could be fuzzy.

If you don't sign it will they have to blur you out in all the comp shots? That would be pretty trippy.

I think it would be fun to be in a ski flick, TH (who is in the industry) says that is pretty much a standard waiver, why not go for it?

... and kick some serious ass in that comp, git 'er done!

Do you have sponsors that pay for film/photo/etc. exposure? If not, I would get that set up ASAP. Then include in the WM waiver that YOU own everything that 3rd parties pay resulting from said exposure.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about the law other than what I have experienced while being processed through our wonderful law enforcement-judicial system.

That's a pretty standard waiver. I'd just sign it. You don't really have any options to get paid or own footage from WM so you can either sign it and be in the show or not sign it and not be in the show. Normally athletes get incentives from sponsors for TV time to balance something like this out. If you don't have any sponsors I'd sign the waiver, try and be on camera as much as possible and use this opportunity to get yourself some sponsors.

Yeah, KJ will be there, along with the previous years champion Tyler Walker, and then there's Chris Devlin Young and Kevin Bramble and whoever else has been invited. Basically it's the worlds best sitskiers, and me.

That's not me being modest either, every single one of these guys can easily kick my ass at any alpine discipline race, I'm going to be seriously depending on people wiping out and giving me an easy finish.

Normally I'd give someone an upper cut to the balls for referring to me as a cripple (unless it was another cripple, and he knew me well enough) but this made me laugh. Monoskier-X has the potential to be complete carnage, there hasn't been a collision in any of the events yet, but when there is it'll be nasty. Plus, cripple fights are always funny.
