Head Wall Slid in Jackson
Around 9:30 am this morning the headwall slid at Jackson and blew out all of the windows in the coulior restaurant. It also buried the patrol shack located on the back of the building trapping one ski patroler who is alright but just buried inside of his shack. They are currently in the process of digging him out.
Any one with more info please feel free to add on.
And for those of you skiing the pass.......JUST DON"T ITS NOT WORTH IT

Crazy. Hope everyone is OK and I really hope Truth doesn't pop in here to cunt up this thread by saying they got what they deserved for building a patrol shack and restaurant at the extreme end of an avy path.

Update:
The Slide blew tables and chairs out of the front of the restaurant through the windows and out into the snow.
This was no small slide.
Everyone is alright in initial reports.

I will never again complain about being kept inside the building after riding an early gondola.

Would have been really wierd to be making pancakes in the restraunt when that thing hit. if this thing went at 9:30 were the lifts running? How far down did the slide go?
I really hope this was just a controlled slide that went big and nothing was open yet.

JH Live Mt. Cam shows some of it.
On the other hand, someone out there might want to tell them to pull the plug on that.

Does Jackson ever close its gates? Or does it simply rely on people being smart enough not to venture out in times like these?

A good friend who has a locker at the top of the Gondola was there and said this:
It happened at about 8:50AM as they were waiting to head out the door. It sounded like a bomb went off. Ski patrol came in and ordered everybody to download the Gondola. He said the mountain never opened.Ski Shop - Basement of the Hostel

The camera is covered in netting and the link to the camera has been removed from the webpage.....this does not bode well.
All Ski patrol accounted for.
As for the other workers in the restaurant. no news yet
good thoughts guys

If reports are true that everyone seems to be accounted for...I gotta think the gondy had not deboarded its first riders...if in fact it was even open. Otherwise some poor sap from the east coast who was reading that map would be toast.
Edit--thanks for that update about 8:50AM. That's a good thing. Yea, lets hope all is alright downstairs.Last edited by bfr; 12-29-2008 at 11:32 AM.
