I don't surf, but the surf was BIG on Superior today. Really big. Driving up the north shore. Didn't see a lot of surfers, but then again, it was only about 45 degrees.

Today was the best waves I've seen on the lake. The popular spot close to home was glassy and shoulder-high with an offshore wind.

Unfortunately a local guy who is both a very good surfer and likely suffering from psychiatric issues decided to go completely crazy screaming at me about parking where I always park....getting in my face yelling and spitting about this being "his town" and how he's the king here. etc etc. Totally, complete bullshit because his childhood home was about 100 yards from mine and his older brother was in my grade in school. He actually threw punches at me. He might have been high on meth, he might have just been in an acute psychosis but it completely ruined my day. The upside is that, uncharacteristically, I didn't lose my temper and handled it mostly like an adult.

Just saw that the storm moving across the country was producing huge waves on Superior. Glad to see you getting after it, YM! And for keeping your cool with methguy.

sweet shots. looks like you got it sweet on lake Michigan. I have been floundering around the north end of Lake superior for the last 2 seasons, and due to geography and poor timing, I would kill for waves like that..... Time for the November Gails !!

Going to go grab some of these on my lunch break:

edit: it's hard to surf in blowing snow...and it's hard to hold on to a board coated in ice with wet gloves. fucking winter.

    ... hey(,) fellas --

Not to be discouraging, (But) this week's Cold merits some recognition --

    yesterday ( Jan6 2014 ), The temperature ranged from minus24F to minus17F, with Chill reported to minus54F ;

I Know for those of you in AK and northern Minnesota ( and the northern Rockies ) this is Normal., but along the south shore of the continental ' north coast ' this is Dangerous Cold.

( Please ) Be safe out there ...

... There is a cliché : ... you are always Warm and Dry ... make it True.

    ( ski hills - Never closed - will reOpen tomorrow - Wed., Jan7 (2014) )

btw. I love this thread - Thanks. skiJ

Nice shot. It's good to see the UP get some size.

    Season coming on....

Getting into the best part of the year here:

I like this spot because it's a nice mellow long cruiser

spent a lot of time snorkeling this year....getting to know some of these places better and spending a lot more time in the water has been good.

Grand Marais is a neat little town; that whole stretch from Two Harbors to the border is nice. Lots of great hikes.
