AD, there were probably 75 cars at that trail head last weekend for trail repairs. So was the trail better? Oh yeah, nice pics.

You sure they were there for trail repairs? I didn't notice anything that looked like it had been worked on. My understanding is it's just a phenomenally popular hike this time of year--especially on weekends. I went on Friday and got to the parking lot at 8:45 am. There were less than ten cars there then. When I finished it was full and there were cars parked along the road. It certainly lives up to the hype. Heck of a day trip from Seattle, though.

When were you there BaNosser? Other than the larches the colors weren't nearly that intense on my hike. I was there last Friday the 12th. No megafauna sightings, either!

We were there Sept 28.. We lunched up on the high ridge above the trail.. nice scramble to get off the trail proper... spent a couple hrs up there.. After we descended and were well past the lake.. and I mean I had already turned the last corner to drop back into the trees to the TH.. my girl says OMG... and it was a serious OMG.. I stopped and looked at her.. then were she was looking.. that beautiful blackie had just emerged from the top of a draw.. literally 3 sec later and we would have missed her.. She wondered around that last meadow ambling up towards us eating the flower tops and mt Ash berries.. she had closed to about 50 yrds and I was just about to let her know we were there.. my girl later said she was about scared shitless as it got closer and closer.. fortunately it turned and went tangential to us.. and then finally disappeared back into the trees.. it was such an amazing moment.. an amazing moment to share with her..
