That is a great interesting shot!
Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

Thanks! I really had to work that crack with a bunch of shots to get the light lined up just right. Harder than I would have thought to capture the glow. This was just this past weekend and the air was smokey (Cali fires I presume?) so that gave the air and the picture some grittiness.

Took a bunch of fun shots the next few days backpacking Canyonlands. Such a beautiful place.

I didn't see it but I guess a deer swam through the ice to get to the other side

Picked up a new (to me) Canon 24-70 f/4L IS lens, so I decided to use it with my Canon M50 and the adapter... works pretty damn good.

Nice I have one of those and really like it for the macro abilities. Although I wish I had the f/2.8 as well

I thought about the f/2.8 for about a second... but it's SO big and heavy. No thanks.

I'll have to check out the macro function, thanks for the heads up.

Small and light is awesome. Love my little old school 24 mm canon prime so much I think I will probably buy the current 24 mm IS version eventually. Best backpacking lens ever.

New-to-me Sony 70-200 f4 showed up. It's dark by the time I'm done work this time of year so I figured I'd drag it to the gym with me and mess around.

Which camera are you using, Dan? The new rumored a6500 successor has me drooling a little bit.

I went with the a7iii. I knew I wanted full frame for astro stuff. This is the best camera I've ever owned by far. That 6xxx line does look pretty interesting too though.

I was SO close to pulling the trigger on the A7iii.... but those Sony FF lenses are just WAY too expensive to justify for me.

    Picture of the Day

Yeah, that's a downside but I'm still not regretting the switch. I don't have a ton of lenses yet but the one I've been using the most is a 35mm 2.8 prime that was only $300 or so used on ebay. It a great small combo to take biking.

Nice! Big cats was about the only thing we didn't see much of when we were there, got a couple but they were few and far between. Any word on how the poaching situation is going there? When we were there a couple years ago we talked to some of the people working there and it sounded like it was pretty out of control. They were telling us stories about how poachers were crossing into the park from Mozambique at night and hunting rhinos.
