^ how long is that lens? edit: the half dome shot, not the Conness/Tenaya shot (I shot that same composition at 100mm on a crop body from the same place on Saturday )
Judging by the light, I'd say you drove through around 3PM on Monday?Last edited by SchralphMacchio; 01-03-2012 at 11:09 PM.

70-300mm lens Thurs Dec 29 @ 1:53pm & 2:17pm respectively. Was my first time on Tioga. Some sections reminded me of the million dollar hwy between Ouray and Silverton, CO.

^^^^ Really cool shots.
Ok, let me try this again. This time with the correct compression settings and hosting at Smugmug rather than PicassaWeb (which I have now given up on now that I am finally editing RAW photos).
As I a new to LR3, Raw, Smugmug, etc.., any C&C would be more than welcome!
These are re-edits of the RAW files of (i) the eclipse and (ii) a couple of sunrise shots from SF right after the eclipse.

Last post (I swear). Some star shots from Christmas eve. The house was putting off some serious light pollution, but I got a cool (albeit unintended effect) of some light painting of warm light on the trees. Processing these was soooo much easier in RAW v. past experience with JPEGs. Very excited to finally be getting into RAW.

Well, I think this one really shows the scale, and I darkened up the sky a bit. On the vertical orientation, I was concerned about my body being too small in the image. But here you can tell way more what it feels like being so high (~2,000 feet) off the deck. I couldn't really get that safety bar out of the frame without risking my camera just due to the size of my tripod and the angle I needed for the image. Of course, that all sounds silly in comparison to risking myself standing on that f'ing ledge.

The b&w Half Dome shot is killer, as is the eclipse shot from UCL.
Set up for the Quadrantid meteor shower last night, but it ended up a bust. I thought I had it pointed in the right direction, but got only one little meteor trail:

It's an insane view, but to be honest, I think I like the view from 2 miles up the trail on Sentinel Dome better. And not because there is way less pucker factor. But because you can see El Cap and cool shit to the west, and then, if you're lucky, right before the light runs out, you can see this to the east (Monday was a very happy/awesome/amazing day).

The sky was never right. I also fiddled with different crops to minimize the foreground bokeh. I just went with the original comp and a more subtle processing. I like it better. I did bump the shadows after reading your contrast observation and I do like it. Just haven't uploaded it yet.
A quiet afternoon on the couch after a morning at the meadows, then a cafe for feeding, then the dog park with a stop at whole foods for beer, wine, and scallops for appetizers for the quiet afternoon on the couch. There are some catchlights in his eyes but he is mesmerized by light and the blinds into the backyard had his full attention.
