Which god do I make animal sacrifices too, so I can get days like this Saturday more than once a week? Don't tell me it's Ullr, I know he doesn't take spring sacrifices favorably.
Thought I'd have an easy day at the bowl, and it sure felt like it. Still ended up skinning and sliding down for 7 hours and 4k' vf for a total of two point six laps+ ski back through the ski area. Hoping to ski that St. Mary face as soon as we get an appropriate weather window...

Heading to Lost Horse to boulder over the weekend from Bozeman and I had a question about Skalkaho Pass Road as an alternative to I-90. It says it might open today. Does anyone know what the condition of the dirt portion of the road is when it opens? We've got a two wheel drive minivan.
Thanks.

I have driven that road ALOT over the years, actually lived on Skalkaho Pass Road (on the Phillipsburg side) for a while. Time-wise just go up and around through Missoula. 2WD is fine, but it is very slow and winding. Might be snow still in shady spots. Overall not worth it.

I just got up to Missoula; will be working here until at least October. I will be looking to get out and about on bikes (brought my MTB and crosser with both slick and knobby wheelsets) and skis. I may head up to Glacier soon with the road plowing progress being made up there. I am up for all brands of ski or wheel based adventure so ping me if looking for a partner.

What are the skiing options like in Glacier this time of year? My gf and I are spending a few days camping just east of the park next week and planning to bring skis, but I'm pretty sure that her willingness to hike with ski gear is less than mine...and mine's not that high to begin with, as I get spoiled by the roadside access off the Beartooth. I'd like to get at least a few turns in for the novelty factor of skiing in another national park, but if I need to hike four miles with skis and boots on my back to get to skiable snow, that's probably not worth it.

Last weekend you could ski from the Logan visitor center with a minimal dry patch or two until continuous snow. The aprons are all flush, and sun cups not bad. Some couloir options are still in play if you are willing to deal with some exposure to cliffs and crevasses. Trying to upload a pic or two but forum not playing well with my phone currently.

Coverage is good. Not great, but good.

We enjoyed some low-angle turns on the apron above the Logan Pass visitors' center. Someone on a snowboard shredded one of the steeper, more interesting lines above that I had looked at and thought "eh, that looks like it would've been a better idea a week ago," but perhaps fortunately for me, that was after I had already decided not to head that way. Not epic skiing, but the girlfriend and I both had fun, I didn't get accused of trying to scare her, and we didn't get involved in any fights over any parking spaces.
