Whitefish = done for the season.
Amusingly, this comes 36 hours after they sent out an all passholder email saying they were staying open through regular closing day.

Sooooo any bets on who is going to be the last ski area standing in this corner of the world:
Lost Trail?
Disco?
Lookout?
Or Snowbowl and its ever-illustrious management?
Heard that it was dust on crust up high all weekend.

That shit is funny. Damn it was a good start last year. Ironically I haven't been hitting disco because I'm working on a place that stares at great divide. Itll suck for the people who work at the hill since there's not a ton of options over here for most of them. Ranch at rock ck shut their shit down too.

With the schools closing now, all the ski areas will have to close. Hope GD still allows uphill travel.

I heard that Disco and Big Sky are closing. Snowbowl will be open tomorrow for the scheduled last Monday (as far as anyone who works up there knows).
Vastly variable conditions today, everything from wind buffed powder drifted in places up to 6 inches, to horrendous dust on crust, to firm sun softened crust with an inch or two of sun warmed fresh on it. It was another great day at The Bowl with sparse ski traffic. I happily skied West Bowl and Griz Chute twice each, but Angel Face was brutal.
Tomorrow should be a sunny spring (er, late winter) day.I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. -אלוהים אדירים

I'll take things that make absolutely zero sense for $1000, Alex:

Dear Snowbowlers:
With the increased state and federal precautions being advised relating to the Covid-19 disease, Snowbowl would like to articulate what our policy is moving forward. Please keep in mind this situation is fluid and based on the recommendations from local and state officials, our operating schedule and procedures could change at the last minute. Currently, Snowbowl plans to remain open until our scheduled closing date of April 5th, Wednesday thru Friday. Our lift operating hours (10-4:30) will remain the same. However, we will take additional precautions at our retail and food service locations, including increased vigilance with our cleaning and sanitation procedures, as well as limiting operating hours. Snowbowl will also follow all directives from the CDC, including limiting occupancy in our facilities to people of 50 or less.
We ask our patrons to also take extra precautions when visiting Snowbowl. This includes limiting contact with other patrons and staff, as well as practicing personal hygiene steps as recommended by the CDC. Finally, please stay home if you are exhibiting any symptoms associated with the flu or Covid-19, or you feel you may have been exposed through personal contact. We have instructed our staff to do the same.
Thank you and please enjoy Snowbowl while you can!

EDIT: They have now edited the post. Hard for me to believe, really, that it is staying open.

So Showdown, Discovery, and Snowbowl are all maintaining they are staying open. Great Divide has yet to announce anything (they are closed Mondays and Tuesdays anyway). I'm guessing they'll follow along with the others and stay open Wednesdays-Sundays.
I guess my main question is, what about the kids who are no longer in school? Will they be going skiing and hanging out together in the lodges, etc.? Seems to kind of contradict the idea of not having them in school, right?
I think if these places are going to stay open, they should shut down their food and bar operations, tell people to pack a lunch and tailgate at the car. Riding lifts and skiing is not likely to cause any spread of the disease, but obviously the food services/bars are a different story, not only for guests but employees too. I figure Mom 'n Pop areas make a good chunk of their revenue just through lift ticket sales. But if they need to keep their cafeterias and bars open to make any money, and bunches of school kids are going up there and gathering, that's not in keeping with the idea of closing the schools in the first place.
Maybe the Governor will step in and ask them to close, at least as long as the schools are closed?
