Nice tour up to gash sub-point today in the Bitterroot, ~10" of new snow above ~7000 ft.

Had some good afternoon turns up there myself. Had a frontside TV lap that was quite divine.

Things in general seem more spread out now when snowpark runs. If the mon-tue snow event stays on track it could be solid powder Wednesday when it spins again.

Spooky antennas up there. Has an abandoned soviet site feel to it.

The afternoon sneak-away from work revealed the lie that is their snow report.

Today was nice. Was hoping to be storm skiing, but oh well.
I don't get it. Last year NOAA's point forecast for Snowbowl was really accurate. This year, not so much. Is it the crazy weird weather we've been having, or did they fuck up their algorithm? Anyone know?

Nice couple of inches at disco. All the fingers and catch a wave were riding pretty damn good. As always still lots hazards but shaping up. Of course its sposed to warm up...I'm road tripping to bridger.Click image for larger version.

I've only asked Disco once, so not familiar with the runs. Is the backside shaping up yet? Have a crew coming in next week. Starting at Big Sky, would like to hit Disco as we return to hit the Bowl later next week.

Kind of a loaded question. If you have skied the backside before, its finally shaping up, "however" it's still pretty thin but if you know where to look the last day or 2 have been damn nice. Unfortunately its supposed to get really warm this weekend which could easily undo the recent snow. If all else fails you could rip groomers on the front side and then hit the brewery and/or maxville on your way back to the zoo.

^ thanks for the update. Thinking of spinning some groomers there this weekend with the warm temps.

Honestly, Disco is worth it even for the cookies they bake. And Philipsburg is always a good place to take a crew, especially if you are heading towards missoula.

If you're not skiing the Bowl until next weekend, then it should provide some time to recover from this temp spike. Snuck a few laps today, and conditions were already begging for a refresh. Had an inch of wind-scoured snow on top of the settled snow, which became chunder as elevation dropped.

Thanks for the Disco update - I was there on the 19th. Backside snow was good for the top 1/3, middle 1/3 was sparse and sporty avoiding the mini-trees, bottom 1/3 was typical outrun skiing.

Open for suggestions, Big Sky on Mon/Tues and condo checkout on Weds morning. Will hit Big Sky on Wed if skiing is still worth the non-advance ticket price. Bridger is a possibility, or Disco. Goal would be to get back to Missoula (my house) by Weds night. Many of us worked at Snowbowl in the 80s, ski there on Thurs and/or Friday. Potential to hit Lost Trail if powder Thursday is in effect.

Despite only 5in there was plenty of pow to go around at Disco. Didnt seem like warm temps had any effect on backside. Kept farming out next to my own tracks around fingers. I think the fact you have to either take a long cat track or hit limelight and take a front side lap to get back to that zone keeps lots of people away. Catch a wave etc were pretty decent as well. Snowed most of time I was there too. Fun day! Now for some food and foosbal.

The Fingers are my favorite zone at Disco. The line between Good Finger and Bad Finger we used to call Smelly Finger. Great stuff.

Took a gamble this morning and drove out to Lookout Pass with the SO. Groomers were killer and the sunshine was divine, but god speed to those who dared to venture off piste.

The Northern side was like someone had skied through a bowl of mashed potatoes, then decided to freeze it overnight before slopping on 5 in of fresh mashers, hoping nobody would notice. True coral reef hiding underneath.

Props to the SO for getting back after it. Her hip connected with sub-surface shark in the Snow Park area a couple weeks back, and her confidence took a hit as well. The good weather helped a lot, and now that's she's heralded we are green for Banff later this month.

The storm is already dramatically underperforming. The .3 SWE so far is really gonna do a lot for the coral reef. woot indeed?
