That has been there for months. Note it says weather depending, and has said that for months.

If they open, look for the low-key announcement after 6pm tonight.

I think it is telling that the snowphone is connected, though the message is from spring, I called it a week or so ago, and it was not connected.

Okay, so I was able to get up for an afternoon lap today, and signs seems to point in a positive direction:

    - The Snowcats had been working to pack and groom runs. Groomed the out-run up to pat's bumps, and there was another buzzing around the base area when I skied through.
    - Several patrollers (clearly junior patrollers) skied past me down Paradise, carrying ski boundary signs and sticks.
    - Patrol stashes has been cleared and prepped
    - closed signs were posted up at the classic bowl entrances.
    - Bunch of Snowbowl employees drinking/smoking together in the parking lot.

    Plus the skiing was great.

Snow phone just updated to state they are open tomorrow. Friday, 12/9

I only found that buried in the comments of their recent Facebook post (posted by a customer).

The wife got a $10 gift card to the new Panera in town (from work of all places). She won't spend it out of spite and I refuse to go, so we keep it above our mantle.

That was a washed out attempt by me. Vet appt for the pup scheduled for 830 this morning and wife didn't want to cover it herself (pup needs lifted in/out of the truck). I finally rolled up there just before 11am. Parking lot was almost full, parking down the road almost to the hiking lot. I gave up and went home. It reminded me of why I was getting there close to 9am last year to secure parking without a hassle.

Good luck if you are going this weekend.

Sounds like their attempt at a "soft opening" failed. Hopefully the snow was at least soft.

Interesting. I popped in probably an hour later an snagged a vacated spot near the front.

You either go really early or show up lazily late. Seems like there's always a bunch of AM-only skiers on most days.

The cars were backed up, but I don't think the lot was full. That happens. People will just park on the road even if there are spaces in the main lot. It CAN be difficult to navigate.
It doesn't help that because they're so close, nobody carpools. Maybe they'll get the bus running soon? Anyway, epic fail because...

...it was great! Now we need some more, but this big store cycle looks like it's headed to Tahoe, Utah, and Colorado. Maybe something will happen this week.
    No longer stuck.

High Roller was groomed from the top to Grizzly, White Bark Pine to Nutcracker was, and Hot Fudge probably (I didn't really look, I was tucking toward WBP) . They had groomed the road from Mission Magic to LaVelle, and of course Time Out.

They were more prepared than has usually been the case during my years at the Bowl. The LRI, on the other hand, had the closed sign up until after 2pm, even though the bar was full of people.

It was a great first day, the snow was dry, and there was plenty of fluff early on, but it got hit hard. Far East, A-Face and Chicken Chute were opened in the afternoon, but were already hammered to chunky crud. The rest of the Bowls were closed, and suffered various degrees of poaching, especially East Bowl. Coverage was good for opening, but there were tree tops poking up on the North Dakota before Far East, some of which were hazardous.

Tomorrow is sure to be a profound cluster fuck. Hopefully they will move the snow-cats out of the parking lot. Also there is a giant pile of chairs in the lot waiting for Sky-Trac to hang them.

It was rather warm up there today, which compromised the snow quality a bit; this afternoon, the snow that fell was very wet, good base-builder snow. It isn't there yet, but folks are going all over the place as if it's mid season. Beware of doing so, there's a bunch of barely submerged logs and saplings.

Introducing a new kooky youngster local, maybe he can step up and fill-in some of those big shoes being left by the older generation of notable rippers:
