So I found these at the local 2nd hand for $15. What did i get and what should I do with them?
mount them up and ski them.
i used my be-loved pair yesterday....
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.
its the same 95mm ski as all the rest of the skis that CMH use to use.
99+% of the CMH labled volkls are the explosive
Sweet. Thanks for the info.
Forgive me for gloating but look what I picked up today... They were advertised as "Free Skis"
Oh... and are explosives still popular? Who else will be riding a pair this year?

What do you mean why do I have duct tape on my skis!?! It improves edge hold, increases pop, adds durability, and most importantly, boosts horsepower by like 30%... what? your skis don't have horsepower?
Happily guilty.
Nice find!
I haven't gone through the whole thread but a funny story concerning those two skis...
I ran the race room at Volkl US HQ in West Lebanon, NH when I graduated college in 1999. I believe it was that first winter (or maybe the next) that I opened a box from Europe that contained 6 or 8 pairs of those Blue Explosives with that G40 topsheet on them. They were made specifically for pros here in the US. I think we got maybe 20 pairs total of the 190s. I literally still remember exactly where I was standing when I opened the first box. They just took old 190s they had sitting around the warehouse in Germany and painted a G40 graphic on them. I distinctly remember the blue sidewalls and the ghetto paint job.
I've got some neon yellows , home rockered also. They're mounted with axial 2's for groomer days. I can't recall the mount point, I was shooting between all the previous mounts and didn't really have a choice. It works though!

Likely taking my Neons out tomorrow. Wondering if anyone has a functional link to the original Powder article that was an ode to all things explosive???
Haven't been able to track it down (yet), but if someone wants to poke around in here it might be found...

Knowing the year the article was (likely) published would be helpful. And warning, if you go down that rabbit hole you might not come up for a while. ;-)
To drift a bit, while looking I did come across something that was kinda fun...
All Things Wide and Wonderful
I got here: https://web.archive.org/web/20051004...mag.com/bg.htm but no further and no article. Still looking...
That was fun to skim through. One of the guys I work w/ at the ski hill still skis K2 big kahunas as his dd. He’s in his 70’s.
Vertigo's were mentioned up thread too and I was just thinking about Vertigo's earlier today. Some of my first telemark turns were on a pair of G41’s that my home ski hill had buried in the rental shop. They must have been at least 190cm, and the boots were 2 sizes big for me. I remember they seemed like absolute monsters to me.
Just got my 180s mounted. Thanks fat yeti for the skis and bindings hella cheap.

If ski companies didn't make new skis every year I wouldn't have to get new skis every year.

Saw a pair of CMH vertigos on the hill today.
i think they were wasted on the old guy skiing them—he looked like he would have been way happier on a modern more forgiving ski with some rocker.
cool to see them in the wild though!
